No Place To Go

No Place to Go  – (by Edgar A. Guest)

The happiest nights
I ever know
Are those when I’ve
No place to go,
When the missus says
When the day is through:
“Tonight we don’t have
A thing to do.”
Oh, the joy of it,
And the peace untold
Of sitting ’round
In my slippers old,
With [music and book]

In my easy chair,
Knowing I needn’t
Go anywhere!
Needn’t hurry
My evening meal
Nor force the smiles
That I do not feel,
But grab a book
From a near-by shelf,
And drop all sham
And be myself.
Oh, the charm of it,
And the comfort rare;
Nothing on this earth
With it can compare;
I am sorry for him
Who doesn’t know
The joy of having
No place to go.

What a great message in that poem! It reminds us not to fill our evenings so full of activities that we can’t simply sit back and enjoy the beauty of having no place to go. When we allow for that we can take time to develop a talent or talk with a family member or simply relax and meditate. So much good can come when we make time for our heads to stop racing and simply sit still for a little bit at the end of the day. Allow yourself time to think about what has gone on in your day, what lessons you learned, and how you want to improve tomorrow.
Have a beautiful day everyone!

    “Allow yourself time to think about what has gone on in your day, what lessons you learned, and how you want to improve tomorrow.” I usually write my thank you to put in my Joy Jar in the morning. I’m r-thinking that. Maybe night time is a good time too. 🙂
