A Master in the Art of Living

“A master in the art of living draws no sharp distinction between his work and his play; his labor and his leisure; his mind and his body; his education and his recreation. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence through whatever he is doing, and leaves others to determine whether he is working or playing. To himself, he always appears to be doing both.”   -LP Jacks

I LOVE that quote so much! It is such a great reminder of how we should live our lives!

When wake up with the attitude that my day is going to be amazing, that I am going to learn something incredible, and interact with great people, and have new experiences that are going to help me become a better person I end up loving my day. It doesn’t matter if it was a work day or a play day – I absolutely love it! I think that is what the quote means when it says to master the art of living.

It’s not about what you are doing, but the attitude you are doing it with. It’s a decision to be happy and excited and grateful. It’s a decision to look at each day as one filled with opportunity and adventure and learning. It’s all about the mindset you choose to have and the thoughts you allow into your head.

Our thoughts are the most powerful thing in our lives. Our thoughts determine our outlook, our perspective, and ultimately our emotions. Our thoughts determine if we feel happy or sad, angry or calm, excited or agitated, stressed or relaxed, depressed or joyful. David O. McKay said, “Your thoughts are the architect of your destiny.” That is why it is so important that we realize that we are the ones in control of our own thoughts. We have a choice on how we will think about every situation we encounter. We have a choice on how we will think about the work we do, the people we meet, and the circumstances we find ourselves in. We are in absolute, total control of our own thoughts and we can make the choice to master them.

When we decide to master our thoughts, it is then that we become a true master in the art of living.

Have an amazing weekend everyone!
