A Pep Talk In Every Drop

Last week I started losing my voice a bit. By Friday morning I was feeling unbelievably sick. I had a horrible chest cough and was really weak. I ended up staying in bed all day Friday and Saturday coughing up a lung. When I woke up Sunday morning I could no longer take staying in bed so I got up and took a shower and got myself dressed for church. I was feeling really worried that I would have a mad coughing fit right in the middle of church so I loaded my purse up with Halls cough drops. Sure enough I had a coughing fit and had to run to the bathroom to hack up a lung…my eyes were watering like crazy and I couldn’t catch my breathe…when I finally was able to regain my composure and go back into the meeting I immediately grabbed a Halls from my purse and unwrapped it to pop it in my mouth. That’s when I noticed it…the little printed writing on its wrapper…

Maybe it’s because I was feeling like garbage still from having been sick the last few days, or maybe it’s because I was feeling lousy for the interruptive coughing fit, all I know is that when I saw the typed up messages on the Halls wrapper it was really meaningful for me.  I had been popping Halls lozenge drops for days and I hadn’t even noticed the little written messages on the wrapper, but this time I noticed that the wrapper had typed up in little print inside the Halls logo some motivational little sayings. The first wrapper said: “Keep your chin up”, “You got it in you”, “Elicit a few ‘wows’ today”, and “A Pep Talk In Every Drop”. It was exactly what I needed to hear in that moment.  When I finished that drop and grabbed the next one its wrapper said:  “Be unstoppable”, “Turn ‘can do’ into ‘can did’”, “Push on”, “Bet on yourself”, and repeated “A Pep Talk In Every Drop”. I grabbed a third drop and this one said “Take charge and mean it”, “March forward”, “Don’t try harder, do harder”, “Put a little strut in it”, and again repeated “A Pep Talk In Every Drop”.

Brilliant – just brilliant. Of course anyone having to pop Halls drops is feeling lousy and could use a Pep Talk! It made me love Halls for thinking to do that on their wrappers. And what was even cooler was the subtlety they had done it with. Thank you Halls for giving me that pep talk and pick me up today. I needed it.

It’s pretty amazing what a few little encouraging words can do to make our day better. Write a few pep talk notes to yourself and spread them around places you’ll find them at random times.  Frankly even when I get over my cold I think I’ll keep a bag of Halls around just so I can unwrap a drop and get a little Pep Talk to lift me up when I’m feeling down. 🙂

Have a great Monday everyone!
