A Song’s Not A Song Til You Sing It

“A bell’s not a bell ’til you ring it

A song’s not a song ’til you sing it

Love in your heart wasn’t put there to stay

Love isn’t love ’til you give it away!”

 -Oscar Hammerstein

That poem was shared tonight at the Tabernacle Choir Christmas Concert at Temple Square.  For those of you who have never had the opportunity to hear the Tabernacle Choir singing live, trust me when I tell you is one of the most incredible things you will ever experience in your life…and that is no joke.  Not only are you completely enthralled by the talent of these amazing singers, but you’ll find yourself covered in goosebumps with how powerful the spirit is that fills the room as they sing.  You quickly recognize that you aren’t just hearing the voices of the choir members up on stage but you are hearing alongside them the voices of heavenly choirs of angels from the other side that are standing next to them singing as well.  Hearing them sing live is an experience you will never forget.

As we sat there in the Concert Center with 21,000 other people enjoying the show, the choir began singing The Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah and suddenly 21,000 people rose to their feet and reverently stood as the Choir performed that incredible number. I seriously had goosebumps on top of my goosebumps and I couldn’t stop my eyes from welling up at how strong the spirit in the room was.

I could picture the Christmas night when baby Jesus was born and Mary was holding her new little baby son as Joseph knelt next to her watching over them and I could picture a Heavenly Choir of Angels singing that very Hallelujah song as they all rejoiced at the birth of the Savior and what his birth would mean for mankind.  …I just wish everyone could have been there experiencing that moment with us tonight….it was just amazing…. and it was truly the perfect start to the 12 days before Christmas.

Here’s an incredible video of the Tabernacle Choir singing that song along with the world’s largest virtual chorus singing along with them…and remember…it’s not just the virtual singers singing with them…as you listen see if you don’t also hear the heavenly choir of angels joining in…

Now that you experienced that incredible song and you are feeling inspired try to remember that love isn’t love til you give it away…so START GIVING!

I ran across this accidentally looking for the author of “A Song is No Song till you Sing It” poem. I have always loved the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. But this is an absolute blessing and has made my Saturday (and year 2021 up-to-date). It was incredibly done. Masterful. My Aunt and her husband and ALL of her family are Mormons. The music is incredible.
