Accept things as they are, not as you wish they were, then focus on your wishes for the future

“When you struggle against this moment, you are actually struggling against the entire universe. Instead, you can make the decision that today you will not struggle against the whole universe by struggling against this moment.  This means that your acceptance of this moment is total and complete. You accept things as they are, not as you wish they were in this moment. This is important to understand. You can wish for things in the future to be different, but in this moment you have to accept things as they are.”  – Deepak Chopra

So often in life we find ourselves wishing things were different…wishing something that happened hadn’t, or wishing something that hadn’t happened had…but all the wishing in this world won’t change what has already taken place and so the only thing that we can do to make things better is to accept things as they are right now in this moment and then make a plan for how you will improve things moving forward.

We can spend a lot of time and energy being sad or angry or hurt or frustrated that something didn’t go as we wanted it to, and we can have all kinds of angst for things we did or didn’t do in the past, or that someone else did or didn’t do something in the past, but when you really stop and step back from everything you realize that you aren’t doing yourself or anyone else any good by allowing those thoughts and feelings into your heart and mind. You are only causing yourself more hurt and pain and you aren’t making a single thing better by doing that. So why is it we so easily find ourselves going there?  Why do we waste so much of our current life energy focusing on what can’t be changed?

I think it’s because it takes a concerted effort on our part not to let our minds go there. It takes telling ourselves that we have no choice but to accept everything that has happened before now as having happened, and we have to accept that at this moment things are as they are.  Then we have to remind ourselves that we do have the ability to impact what happens from this moment forward so we need to focus all of our time and energy on that because that is the only thing we can do something about, and that we have an opportunity to improve.

Accept things as they are and then focus your efforts on doing what you can to improve things moving forward.

Have a beautiful day…wish for it to be magical!
