All We Can Become

Today I went down to give a lecture at Brigham Young University on Entrepreneurship.  Speaking at the Universities is one of my very favorite things to do because I just love the students!  I love their energy and their passion and excitement for life.  I love that they are full of hopes and dreams for the future.  I love how thirsty they are for knowledge and growth.  They are a ton of fun to spend time with.

One of the highlights of my lecture today was the fact that my son Dalton was actually in my lecture to hear me speak.  Because he was gone on his mission for two years he hasn’t been able to come to hear me give a speech before so it was awesome to have him be there today with me.

In my talk I shared many things but there was one quote I didn’t have time to read through so I wanted to post it in my blog tonight so those students in the class could get a copy of it and I thought the rest of you would appreciate a copy as well.  This particular quote is one of my personal favorites because it applies to every single one of our lives at certain points.  And it happens to be by one of my favorite authors, C.S. Lewis.

“Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on: you knew those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised. But presently he starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of—throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were going to be made into a decent little cottage: but He is building a palace.”

So often in life we have a picture in our head of what we think we are capable of doing, or who we think we are capable of becoming…but the true reality is that what God knows we are capable of and what He knows we can become is so much bigger and better than anything we could ever imagine and that is why we have to trust Him.  Unlike us, He doesn’t make mistakes.  So let Him build you into that grand palace he knows you are meant to be.

Thank you to all those students who came to hear me talk today and thank you for the emails I received from so many of you after my talk.  I was truly blown away with your kind words and they meant so much to me.  You guys are awesome!!!

Uplifting and encouraging people is so important. Some people never get that. I’m going to lansing for an exam to be certified for court recording. I currently work in another department of the court but I volunteered to do this because I thought it would be a good thing. What I get is – well are you doing this for a promotion?? Well, they did away with court reporters in the court I work at. Long story short, when god is rebuilding our houses, he does not need a permit to do so.
