Living in the Washington D.C. area in high school I was all about music groups like Erasure, The Cure, O.M.D., Depeche Mode, and the Smith’s. Then my family moved to the Nashville Tennessee area during my Junior year of high school and I couldn’t help but fall in love with country too. I still remember the first country song I ever fell in love with was Randy Travis’ song “Forever and Ever Amen”…how could anyone not love that song!
County music has a way of telling stories like no other music can and it pulls you into the storyline its telling and pulls at your heart. Today I was singing another favorite country song called “You’re Gonna Miss This” written by Trace Adkins – as I sang the lyrics I couldn’t help but think of the current lockdown situation we’ve all been going through and thinking how even with as hard as this period has been for all of us there is some special things we’ve been able to do during this period that we are going to miss…like having more time with our families, not having to deal with traffic, getting to wear stretchy elastic waist pants every day, not needing to put on makeup or spend time fixing our hair, cooking with our spouses more often… As we are all pushing to have things open up again, and as excited as we are for that to happen, I have a feeling there are going to be things about this lockdown period that we are gonna miss…so appreciate the time you have left at home in stretchy pants because before you know it you’re gonna miss this….

Great song Amy. Yes in many ways “I’m going to miss this”. I’ve had so many enriching experiences during this time. I have pages of compensatory blessings I’ve recorded. With 18 grandchildren living around me, I’ve had incredible one on one experiences with them that I usually don’t. Why? Because of the time away from their activities and friends that has allowed me to be their friend and do things with them. Like just talking face to face and not texting. I’ve had previous FaceTime with my 87 year old mother who is shut in and lonely and my husbands favorite part of all this…. he doesn’t have to share me. We are with each other 24-7. That’s what I will miss when this is over. But I’m committing to not forget and walk away from the lessons and time I have been given to enhance my many relationships.
What! We don’t have to put on make-up, do our hair, dress up nice? (All of my pants are stretchy haha) Nobody told me. I have been doing that every day. And I don’t forget my jewelry…no, no. Well maybe it’s not too late we might have a couple of weeks left. Whoohoo!
