At All Times, In All Places…Live By Example

Today I was able to see a video someone had taken of my 20 year old son who is out serving as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (The LDS Church).  It did my heart good to see his amazing smile as he was talking to families throughout the Jackson, Mississippi mission (which covers most of the states of Mississippi and Louisiana).  As I looked at him in his clean white dress shirt and tie with his clean cut haircut and with his black name badge which states that he is a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ I thought to myself, “What a great example he is of a fine young man.”  I felt so proud that he was wearing his name tag with honor – representing Jesus Christ in a way that would make the Savior proud.  But it also hit me as I thought about it the great responsibility he carries on his shoulders each day by wearing that name tag which states that he is a representative of Jesus Christ.  What a HUGE responsibility!  Every moment of every day he wears that nametag letting the world know that he is a missionary for Jesus Christ, which means that every action he takes is being observed by those around him every moment of each day.  In order to do right by Jesus my son must be careful to always act in such a way that Jesus would feel proud of him, that nothing in his conduct would take away from the example that Jesus Christ himself set when he was on the earth.

I think it is easy day to day to forget that each of us should be living our lives as if we had a black tag on our shirt pocket saying that we are a representative of whatever we truly believe in.  Whatever we believe in, whether it be God the Father or his son Jesus Christ, or whether it is a higher spirit, or the Universe, or whatever you believe in – whatever or whoever that is we should act in such a way that higher power we believe in would be honored to have us wear a nametag stating that we were there representative.  That is something I want to try harder in my own life to do a better job of.  I want to make sure that wherever I am and whatever is going on around me that I am acting as a representative of Jesus Christ and the values I believe he represents and would be proud of.  Even if I don’t have a nametag on my shirt that says it for everyone to read, my behavior should emulate it on its own.

I am proud of my son and the sacrifice he is making to go out and talk to people about Jesus Christ for these last two years.  I am grateful to him for taking on that responsibility of his nametag that he wears proudly each day.  Most of all I am thankful for the example it sets for me and the desire it gives me to be a better person myself.  Thank heaven for people who set the good examples for us to follow!

Let this week be a week of exemplifying the values we believe in for all the world to see.

Have a great Monday tomorrow!

You should categorize your blog posts so they’re easier to sift through when reading. Category Ideas: Business/Work Ethic, Religion, Fun Times (Vacations, etc would go in this category)

You should be very proud of what your son is doing…it’s wonderful! I stood up for my values, beliefs & integrity in my last job and unfortunately it cost me my job by doing so. I still don’t regret standing up for what I believe in though!
