Be A Force For Good

“We can all be a force for good if we have the desire.” – Gail Miller

Tonight I attended the Giant in Our City Awards dinner where the award was giving to an amazing woman, Gail Miller. Gail is someone who has spent her life doing good things for others. She has truly made a difference in the world by choosing to be a force for good.

All of us have the ability to be a force for good right where we currently stand in our lives. One doesn’t have to wait until they obtain power or privilege or wealth to become a force for good in the world – quite the contrary – there is no minimum requirement one must first obtain or achieve before becoming a force for good. All it takes is a desire to do so.

Some ways we can all become a force for good include:

Serve others. Go out of your way to look for people to help. Look for ways to encourage. Look for ways to build up. Look for ways to love. Even the smallest act of kindness can change a person’s world for the better. Never pass up on a chance to help a stranger, even if its something as small as offering a smile and a hello.

Inspire others. Encourage them to find their purpose and to believe in their ability to achieve it.

Build a culture of community by caring about people and encouraging them to care about one another too. Treat others with respect and help others understand the importance of treating each other with respect. Appreciate others yourself and then help them appreciate others around them. Help them see the value that each of us contribute.

Show gratitude. Say thank you. Give compliments whenever they are deserved. Never let yourself hold compliments back. Be specific and heartfelt in expressing your appreciation for others.

Be optimistic. Look for the good in people and situations. Have faith. Believe that everything will turn out for the best.

Do the right thing at all times and in all circumstances. Never let a negative consequence stop you from doing the right thing. Value your integrity above all else. Superheros are trusted because they always do the right thing. Be a superhero to others that they can trust to always do what’s right.

All of those things don’t take position or power or wealth…they just need to come from the heart. I pay tribute to Gail Miller for being such a great example of being a force for good in this world and I thank her for inspiring me through her example and her reminder for all of us to remember to Be a Force For Good.

“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the power to turn a life around.” – Leo Buscaglia

Have a great weekend everyone!
