Between who you are and who you want to be

“Between who you are and who you want to be, is what you do.”

I was in the kitchen peeling an Orange when I squeezed it a little too hard and juice ran down my hand onto the counter. And of course it did because it’s an Orange, so when we squeeze it, orange juice is going to come out because that’s what’s inside the orange.  For some reason that made me wax philosophical today and the following thought came to mind:

When you squeeze an orange, what will come out of it is orange juice. It doesn’t matter who squeezes the orange, it doesn’t matter where you are when you squeeze it, and it doesn’t matter when you squeeze it. If you squeeze an orange what will come out is orange juice.

By that same token when anyone squeezes a lemon, the same thing applies…what will come out is lemon juice.

And when anyone squeezes a lime…what will come out is lime juice.

When you squeeze them what is genuinely inside of them is what is going to come out.

When life metaphorically squeezes each of us, when we face times of pressure, regardless of who applies the pressure, where the pressure is applied, or when or why it is applied…what will come out of us is whatever is genuinely inside of us.

I suppose we find out the most about ourselves we observe what comes out of us as we go through difficult things. That is a bit of a humbling thought because I can think of plenty of times when I have been tired or hangry (angry due to being hungry) and I have acted short or snappy toward others.  So that tells me I still have some work to do to improve.

As the opening quote points out, to become the person we want to become we have to take action now and do things every day that will help us become more of the person we want to become. We need to do things that will help us improve spiritually, mentally, and physically every single day.  The more we do that, the better what’s genuinely inside of us will be.

Love how you encourage us to live our values and keep doing things we were born for – and do good, no matter how tiny, every day. We can hide what’s inside for awhile but it bleeds out eventually. Thank you, Amy.
