“What you have to decide… is how you want your life to be. If your forever was ending tomorrow, would this be how you’d want to have spent it? Listen, the truth is, nothing is guaranteed. You know that more than anybody. So don’t be afraid. Be alive.” – Sarah Dessen
Nothing is guaranteed in life except for one thing – when we let fear stop us or get in our way we are guaranteeing that we will never be able to accomplish our ultimate goals.
I love the opening quote. It does such a great job of reminding us to open our eyes and pay attention to where we are in our life, and what we are spending our time doing. It makes us stop and ask if what we are doing in our life right now is leading us to achieve everything we want to accomplish? And if our answer is that it’s not, the quote serves to kick our behinds to really do a little self-evaluation to ask why we aren’t spending our time that way and what fears we have that are stopping us? Remind yourself that you are the Director in this movie of your life…you get to decide.
I think taking a minute to stop and really self-evaluate where we are in our life is a critical exercise to do every so often. It’s easy to get all caught up in being busy and overwhelmed doing a bunch of stuff without stopping to consider if the things we are working on are taking us toward our goals or detracting us from them…and once we evaluate we can try to redirect ourselves toward getting things back on track to take us where we want to go.
Start your week off by taking a minute to self-evaluate. Ask yourself, “If your forever was ending tomorrow, would this be how you’d want to have spent it?” Then put your fear aside and BE ALIVE!
