Don’t Disappoint the Man (or Woman) in the Glass

If you had to choose just one virtue to uphold in your life – choose integrity. It will always be your most valuable asset. It is worth more than money or power or fame. You have complete control of this asset and no one else can ever take it away from you. It is yours and yours alone.

When I look back at all the people I have interacted with in my life the one thing I never forget about a person is their level of integrity. Those who have it are people I would move heaven and earth to help. Those who don’t have it are people I would go to great lengths to keep out of my life because a person who lacks integrity will never bring happiness or joy or goodness into your life. But a person of honor and integrity is someone you can always look up to and try to emulate. Your life will only be better because they were a part of it.

Make integrity mandatory in your life. Never be tempted to exchange your integrity for anyone or anything. I love the quote that says:

“There are days you will interact with people that lack integrity and honesty. It’s tempting to meet them where they’re at. Don’t. Remember their choices are not yours. Your integrity is not optional. Being your best in the face of adversity is the most rewarding choice.”

When this life is said and done you want to be able to look in the mirror and know that you have kept your integrity.

The Man In The Glass

When you get what you want in your struggle for self
And the world makes you king for a day
Just go to the mirror and look at yourself
And see what that man has to say.

For it isn’t your father, or mother, or wife
Whose judgment upon you must pass
The fellow whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the one staring back from the glass.

He’s the fellow to please – never mind all the rest
For he’s with you, clear to the end
And you’ve passed your most difficult, dangerous test
If the man in the glass is your friend.

You may fool the whole world down the pathway of years
And get pats on the back as you pass
But your final reward will be heartache and tears
If you’ve cheated the man in the glass.
