“Don’t Dream Your Life, Live Your Dreams”

“If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost: that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.” – Henry David Thoreau…

When my children were young we used to play a game called Sky Castles. We would go outside in our backyard and lay down on our big trampoline and look up at the sky above us. Then we would go around to each of us and we would each take a turn saying “It is one year from now and right now in my life I have done____, and I have accomplished_______.” Next we would say “It is five years from now and right now in my life I have done____, and I have accomplished_______.” Then last off we would say “It is ten years from right now and I have done____, and I have accomplished______.”

I don’t remember exactly why we started playing this game, but we did it from the time my kids were really young and we did it until they were grown up teenagers. The game had a significant impact on the three of us (me, Dalton, and Ashley). It caused us to always be thinking about our lives as if we were in our own futures seeing what we had accomplished and what we had become. It allowed us to picture the future that we wanted to see, and by picturing that future in our minds it somehow helped to program our subconscious to start heading in the direction of our goals naturally. I know it may sound like just a silly game but it wasn’t and I realize that now as I look back at our lives. Both me and my children have accomplished goals in our lives that I would never really have believed would come true, but they have. And now I realize that our simple little game we played with one another had a huge impact on all of us. That game combined with keeping a goal poster of course. My daughter came running in the other night and she said “Mom you would not believe how many things on my goal poster have come true already!” “Just last night I actually danced in the rain!”. It made me really proud of her for valuing her goals the way she does. I realized that I too have valued my goals more than I could ever explain. My life has been a series of goals and dreams that just keep coming true for me. Yes my life has been an incredible amount of hard work, but that hard work has led me to accomplishing goals that are so far beyond what I thought could come true. Visualizing my goals, talking about my goals, and working my tail off…that is the three keys to the success I have had in my life. And it makes me excited to set new goals for myself! It makes me realize that it is time for me to go out in my backyard and lay on my trampoline and look up and the sky above and say “It is one year from now….It is five years from now….It is ten years from now and I have done____ I have accomplished_____” It is time for me to refresh my goal poster with new pictures of the exciting life ahead of me.

Today’s challenge is for all of you to take the opportunity this weekend to do the same.

What would make me really happy is to put together a plan that will allow me to have more free time in life to be able to be a mentor to those of you who would like help accomplishing your goals, so that is a major goal I am going to work on achieving next!

Love this idea! Especially since there is soo much opprtunity and paths I feel that I can take, being at the age of 19. Its hard to decide sometimes and I dont like putting things off especially when it comes down to paths I want to take regarding my career and schooling. Its is so exciting to plan and set goals but sometimes its hard to actually sit down and take the time to figure it all out. I think saying my goals out loud is a great way to hit the ground running and to boot up some motivation. Thanks Amy!

Dream posters and goals are amazing things when you look back a year or so from when you first put it out there and realize that you`ve achieved what you set out to do. Thank you for this tweet!

Be soft. Do not let the world make you hard. Do not let the pain make you hate. Do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness. Take pride that even though the rest of the world may disagree, you still believe it to be a beautiful place.
