Examine Your Life

“I urge you to examine your life. Determine where you are and what you need to do to be the kind of person you want to be. Create inspiring, noble, and righteous goals that fire your imagination and create excitement in your heart. And then keep your eye on them. Work consistently towards achieving them.” – Joseph B. Wirthlin

We’ve all heard the advice, “Begin with the end in mind” and I take that to heart when I set my tangible goals. For example, if my goal is to build a house I begin by creating a goal poster full of pictures of what I want the house to look like when its through, or if I’m planning a wedding reception I begin with pictures of how I want the event to look, and so on. The use of goal posters is one of the most powerful influences in my life and it’s helped me achieve things I could only imagine.

But when it comes to non-tangible goals such as becoming THE KIND of person we want to become I hadn’t really thought of doing a goal poster with images that show that, but I LOVE that idea – The idea came to me when I was reading that opening quote I shared. That question of “what you need to do to be the kind of person you want to be” is such a powerful one! So why not create a specific goal poster that reflects THE KIND of person you want to be – for example if being an attentive parent is the kind of person you want to be you could have pics of a parent reading to a child or playing with their children at the park and so on. And if being a good listener is the kind of person you want to be then have pics showing someone listening to others. And if being a person who serves others is the kind of person you want to be you could include pictures of people doing different types of service for others. Pull a bunch of pictures together that show people doing all the things you’d need to be doing to be the kind of person you want to become – glue them to a goal poster and give yourself a visual representation of THE KIND of person you want to be. Then you can hang it up right next to your Goal Poster of the tangible goals you want to achieve so you’ll know what you want to accomplish and THE KIND of person you want to be as you do.

Now you’ve got all kinds of amazing goals to “fire your imagination and create excitement in your heart”!
