Forget your stresses, Gangnam Style!

Tonight I came home from work after working late to pack up the rest of my pictures off my office walls, very much feeling the weight of exactly how much I still need to get transitioned before the end of this week.  The stress of the week was weighing heavily on my shoulders.  As I sat down to try and relax for a moment, my 16 year old daughter came bounding out in front of me yelling “Gangnam Style” and she proceeded to play the song and demonstrate the newest dance craze of Gangnam Style.  All I could do was sit and laugh out loud at the silliness.  When she and my husband explained that this new music video song and dance has already been viewed over 270 million times on you tube, and it has already had more people posting copycat videos of their own than anything else on you tube right now, I thought to myself – I get it!  No, I am not saying that I get Gangnam Style song in any way, because I definitely don’t, but what I do get is the need for there to be a little more silliness in our lives.  We deal with so much stress and pressure on a daily basis, between our work lives and our home lives and our family and community responsibilities, that it is no wonder that people would go nuts over a music dance video that is sheer silliness and no meaning other than to be free and fun and to dance!  It is an opportunity to put your anxieties aside and do something totally meaningless and goofy that just makes you laugh!

I recently read:

Silliness induces laughter. Laughter is considered ‘nature’s medicine’. So, what are some of the proven benefits?

•Laughter triggers the release of endorphines – the body’s natural ‘feel good’ hormones.
•Laughter relaxes the body and relieves tension.
•Laughter boosts the immune system by decreasing stress hormones and increasing immune cells and disease and infection-fighting antibodies.
•Laughter protects your heart by improving the function of blood vessels and increasing blood flow, both of which can help protect you from heart problems.

So, duh!  What we all need is a little more SILLY and A LOT more laughter in our lives.

“Live a life of love, honesty, appreciation, kindness, and strength. Sprinkled with a little silliness.”

Today we all clearly need to learn to dance to Gangnam Style!  Be silly! Have fun!  Laugh! And dance!

Have a great Wednesday everyone!

I have seen part of the video with my son and I said I have done that dance before he started making it famous. He laughed and I laughed as his laugh is contageous. Sometimes stressfull situations are the funniest situations after you take a back and look at it. You learn from those moments.

Thank you for the reminder that laughter is one of the most natural healers. We all need more silliness and less seriousness.
