From Bad To Worse To SERIOUSLY?!

It had been a rough day…you know that kind of day where everything seems to go wrong?  I’d been up til 4am working on a really important project in order to solve a problem. Finally I got so tired I couldn’t even finish my own sentences and decided to call it for the night…surely tomorrow everything going bad would look better….

I woke up a few hours later and began working on it again, so hyper-focused I think a wild horse stampede could have come running through the room and I wouldn’t have noticed.  Finally I was just to the point of having it all worked out when BAM!…the rug was pulled out from under me and the solution I’d crafted was no longer an option…the bad had suddenly become worse…I was SO disappointed.  I was going to have to go back to square one to try and think of another solution all together…

I’d had it. I was exhausted, stressed out, and unbelievably discouraged… I turned to my husband and said, “That’s it, I’m going to get a slushy.”  Now I don’t normally drink slushy’s because they are so full of empty calories it’s insane, but I’d had it…so off to get a slushy we went.

We pulled up to the Sonic Drive-through and said, “We’d like a grape slushy with unblended vanilla ice cream up the middle.”  The voice came back over the speaker and said, “I’m sorry but our slushy machine is down today.”  All I could say is “ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!?!”  This had to be a joke, right? I mean it’s Sonic…the slushy is their thing…that machine is never down… My husband ordered a diet soda and we pulled forward to wait.  I turned to my husband feeling totally dejected after such a disappointing day and said half serious, “it’s like God doesn’t love me anymore”.  Just as I said it there came a knock on the car window…it was the Sonic employee bringing out our diet soda.  “I can’t believe your slushy machine is down” I uttered sadly as he handed over the drinks.  “Oh, it actually just started working again” he said, “did you want me to get you one?”  “YES!” I exclaimed joyously.

What that employee didn’t realize was that my joy was over more than a slushy machine…my joy was over the fact that as silly as it may sound, for me, that slushy machine working again was a little sign from God letting me know that He still loves me…

Things don’t always go the way we hope, and often times our problems don’t get solved even when we’ve worked our guts out on them, but one thing we can always be certain of is that God still loves us. And even though He allows us to struggle, He’ll send tender little mercies to let us know He cares.

Great post Amy. I totally have days like this and wonder, “what else is going go wrong today?” As tough as it is, if I can manage to try and have a positive outlook, something good will happen to get me back on track.

Love what you’re doing here on the blog. Keep going!
