Nothing can lift the spirits of a crowd faster than putting on some great music and having an impromptu dance party! The last few days I have been attending a Girls Camp for the Young Women in our church group ages 13-17 and after a long, hot, uphill hike, the girls were worn out and tired. That’s when I knew it was time to bust out the music and start an impromptu dance par-tay!
The moment the upbeat music starts the girls couldn’t help but start moving first their heads to the music, quickly followed by their feet, and the next thing you know they were all out on the floor jumping around and having a fantastic time. The memory of being tired from the hike left their minds within minutes and everyone had a renewed sense of energy that went on for over an hour. There was the hokey pokey, the limbo, the Macarena, a complete list of 80’s songs, and the ever popular hip hop hits. We had such a fun time as the girls and the leaders laughed and sang and let loose on the patio.
It is amazing how a little fun music and a willingness to get on your feet and dance can take all the stresses of your day and melt them completely away. Music can be such a powerful tool for changing your mood and motivating you to get moving! But you have to be willing to set your inhibitions aside and leave your shyness at the door and GET UP and MOVE! Life is far too short to be one of those people standing on the sidelines just watching the dance party from a distance. You need to be willing to get up and join in the fun and let yourself go!
“Great dancers are not great because of their technique; they are great because of their passion.” – Martha Graham
Never be one of those people who sit and worry about how silly they will look as you dance – and certainly never worry about what other people might think who are watching you – I promise that the only people who judge your dancing are those people who were too scared to get out there and dance themselves. I can say that confidently because those who get up and dance are far too busy having a good time to sit and judge anyone else. They are too busy being HAPPY!
“While I dance I cannot judge, I cannot hate, I cannot separate myself from life. I can only be joyful and whole. That is why I dance. – Hans Bos
Believe me when I say that any bad day can be turned around quickly with a little bit of music and a whole lot of dancing. So get off your feet, throw on the music and GET UP AND DANCE!
