Hang In There

I received a letter from my son this week in which he shared he had an incredibly difficult week on his mission. It was just one of those really tough weeks when you find yourself discouraged and down and you need someone to reach out to you to help lift you up again and you need that gentle reminder to hang in there…

And so as a family we decided to put together a care package to send to my son with a card a day for him to read during the week with some goodies and fun things in the package. It was clear to us from his letter that he was feeling down and he really needed a pick me up. All of us have those days sometimes and all of us need a little care package from the people we love to help get us back on our feet. So, I sent my daughter to go to the store to pick out some fun, happy cards to put into his care package we were assembling. Ashley came home with the funniest stack of Hallmark cards I think I have ever seen. One of them was too awesome not to share with all of you. It read as follows:__________________________________________

(outside of card)

Hang in there…

Sometimes life hands you lemons, but then you can make lemonade.

(inside of card)

Of course, sometimes life pulls down your pants, runs a power sander across your naked butt, then pours lemon juice on your raw abraded buttocks.

In that case, a cool citrus drink wouldn’t really help but, darn it…you’ve got to hang in there anyway!

Okay that is freaking hilarious! I loved it because I knew that card would make Dalton laugh out loud. I knew that laughing out loud would be just the release he needs and it would help him remember to hang in there because it is going to be okay. Oh how humor can help put everything back into perspective for us! Nothing heals the saddened soul like a good dose of laughter will!

When you find yourself feeling discouraged, find something to make you laugh. A funny quote, a good joke, a silly picture, a good comedy on TV or a funny movie. And then LAUGH!

“When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry, show life that you have a thousand reasons to smile.” ~Author Unknown

If things seem rough in your life right now or if you have been feeling discouraged, HANG IN THERE! And then find a reason to LAUGH! Oh, and don’t forget to make some lemonade 🙂

Have a good Thursday!

~Amy

Getting an actual letter or package (not an email) will do a lot in helping him get over this little slump. For me nothing was worse than having a tough day, and then coming back to the apartment to find an empty mailbox.

Thanks, Amy… Honestly, sometimes I feel you are an angel sent from Heaven because you always know what to say on my really bad days to make me realize how I can feel better. You`re the best. 🙂

Dalton is a lucky kid to have such a loving, caring family.

That is a great card!! Sounds like I need to get that for my marine son-in-law who just got deployed to Afganistan – again. How grateful I am to our missionaries who are out in the world working hard for a better world, and I am grateful to our armed forces who do what it takes to protect our families and our liberties.

Wouldn`t it be great if the whole world would just play nice so that we didn`t even need a military? Wouldn`t it be nice if our loved ones in the military, or anywhere, didn`t have to worry as they are going to bed each night if tomorrow is even going to come for them because people can`t be good to each other, even as their loved ones at home are wearing out their knees every night praying for a safe return?

Thank you to all the missionaries who work for a nicer world while our armed forces work for a safer world.

Yet another reason to consider yourself lucky. To send a package, which only weighed 3 pounds, to my nephew in Africa cost us over $30. And it has been 30 days and he still has not received it 🙂 But just think how excited he will be to receive it 🙂

Packages can really go a long way. We used to send packages to my sister`s boyfriend and then to my brothers and it was always fun to pack it all up! Although, all of my brothers were sent to Europe and Asia so I couldn`t send as many packages as I wanted to…

I also needed this today. This could have ended up a really bad day, but I tried to stay positive, and hung in there, and I got the phone call that I was waiting for and it wasn`t the bad news I was expecting…..Feeww! I`m glad this was the first thing I read this morning to keep me from breaking down. Thanks Amy!

It`s so interesting to me how you are inspired to write certain things that are exactly what people needed to hear at that exact time. This was one of those. I am in a funk, and it just keeps getting rougher. I reached out to my family for inspirational quotes that have helped them and it was great to hear. Now having another option to look to something funny to get me to stop pouting is great! Thank you!

Undeniably believe that which you said. Your favorite justification seemed to be on the internet the easiest factor to take note of.

I say to you, I definitely get irked while people consider
worries that they just don’t understand about.Yoou
managed to hit the nail upon the ttop ass well as outlined out the whole thing

I received this card from my nephew after my husband died, then my mother died, then I had twins. It truly was the only thing that got me through that time. Best card ever!
