Have Each Others Back

The other night I was watching a show about a Navy SEAL Team. Seeing the way the team has each others backs, through thick and thin, was so inspiring and it really got me to thinking…perhaps the reason those SEALs are able to be so brave and have such courage to face whatever obstacles lie ahead is they know they have teammates who have their back at all times, and in every situation. Whatever hardships they have to face they know their team that will literally fight to the death for them. What a huge comfort that must be.

We all need a team of people who will have our back in life. We need our spouses to have our back, we need family members to have our back, and we need friends to have our back…and we need to be the person to have their backs as well. …Just think of the courage and could inspire in one another if we all did better at having each others backs.

“In the wild, when a mama elephant is giving birth, all the other female elephants in the herd back around her in formation.  They close ranks so that the delivering mama cannot be seen in the middle. …They send a clear signal to predators that if they want to attack their friend while she is vulnerable, they’ll have to get through 40 tons of female aggression.

When the baby elephant is delivered, the sister elephants do two things:  They kick dirt or sand over the newborn to protect its fragile skin from the sun, and then they all start trumpeting, a female celebration of new life and sisterhood.  …This is what we do, girls.  When our sisters are vulnerable, when they are giving birth to new life, new ideas, new ministeries, when they are under attack, when they need their people to surround them so they can create, deliver, heal, recover…we get into formation.  We close ranks and literally have each other’s backs. …And when delivery comes, when new life makes its entrance, when healing finally begins, when the night has passed and our sister is ready to rise back up, we sound our trumpets because we saw it through together.  We celebrate! We cheer! …We give thanks.” -by Jen Hatmaker and Nichole Nordeman

That story is so heartwarming! Make sure you have the backs of your loved ones and friends…they need you to help them feel safe so they can be brave.
