Here’s To Strong Women

“Here’s to strong women.  May we know them, may we be them, may we raise them.”

Tonight the University of Utah held a Women Alumni event at our REES Capital offices and they asked me to hold a Q&A forum with the women where they could ask me questions about my past experiences and life lessons learned as an entrepreneur.  There was an amazing group of women who came to the event and it was an honor to spend the evening talking with them.  The women who coordinated the event had amazing food catered, and an amazing box of chocolates as a gift to me for speaking, and darling prize give away bags for the women attending.

I couldn’t help but think to myself how absolutely amazing women are.  No one throws an event like women do.  No one knows how to arrange for amazing food and darling gifts and all of those cute little touches that really make things nice for everyone involved the way women do.  Then add to that the fact that women are beautiful and intelligent and caring and talented and giving and unbelievably capable and yeah….women are just plain amazing!

“Women who seek to be equal with men lack ambition.”  – Marilyn Monroe

So often I get asked if it is hard to be a woman in business, but my answer to that is “Heck No!”  It is awesome, and I wouldn’t want it any other way.   I love being a woman in business because I think women bring so much to the table with their instincts, their people skills, their ability to care about others, their different approach to solving problems, and all the other gifts women have.   I love being a woman!  And I love spending time with other successful, strong, wonderful women, and I loved spending time with the group from the University of Utah tonight and getting to know those great women.

I returned home tonight to another amazing young woman, my daughter Ashley, who is curled up sleeping on the couch and the quote comes to my mind:

“Let her sleep, for when she wakes she will move mountains.”

And indeed she will, because, after all, she is a woman, and that is what we women do :)!

Strong women – may we know them, be them, raise them.  And to the strong men – appreciate, love, and encourage the strong women in your life, because as strong as we may be, every now and then we need someone to take our hand and tell us everything will be alright…then you can sit back and enjoy watching us move those mountains!

Have a great weekend everyone!

My wife, and best friend falls into this category as do many women that must fight everyday because of health afflictions.

Many of these ladies are strong and beautiful also. They are challenged and winners that receive no recognition and strive to remain relevant in a world that forgets them.

We have a wonderful and mighty God that answers prayer and performs miracles. He allows those that are afflicted to be of significance to those that are healthy and lead normal lives.

My challenge to all of us is to reach out to someone that is sick, let them know they matter, LISTEN, LISTEN and LISTEN to what they are enduring, how they are overcoming, and how they keep going. You will never know how to love a sick person until you reach out and establish a relationship.

Learn how they used to be versus how they are today. See if you can do a random act of kindness that will allow them to experience a day from their past and compare it to their new normal they see and feel every day.

You will get the blessing! Women rock this world and and they are of more value than anything God offered to mankind.

Thank you for hosting the event, and thank you for writing such an amazing entry. Yes we women should be proud of ourselves. We care, we listen, and this is what makes us different and valuable.
