“I Am An American”

This weekend we head into the Fourth of July holiday here in the United States and as we do I want to proudly and gratefully say that I am an American.

Fourth of July Poem

Too often I take for granted how #blessed I am to be an American, to live in a country that stands for freedom of choice and freedom of religion. It’s so easy when you have those freedoms as part of your normal daily life to forget how truly lucky and blessed you are. That’s why I love the Fourth of July holiday because it helps to remind me of just how grateful I truly am.

As a little girl growing up we started every morning at elementary school reciting the Pledge of Allegiance which goes:

I pledge Allegiance to the flag

of the United States of America

and to the Republic for which it stands,

one nation under God, indivisible,

with Liberty and Justice for all.

I wish we still said the pledge every day in our schools, and Universities, and places of business. It is such a great reminder to be grateful for this nation and to pay tribute to the fact that we became this great nation under God and his divine direction.

In the words of the Lee Greenwood song, “Proud to be an American” I want to close with the words:

“I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free. And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me. And I’d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today. ‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land God bless the U.S.A.”

Love, love, love it. Whenever I travel abroad, I seriously want to get off the plane and kiss the American ground when I return.

But really, America is more than it’s soil and resources, great as they are. America is the culture of hope, faith, love, generosity, freedom and initiative that abounds here. America is the expectation that we respect one another not in spite of our differences, but because of our differences. America is the determination to pull together to accomplish great things even at great risk. So, I guess the spirit of America could be planted anywhere on earth, but I feel blessed to live in its midst every day! Thanks for a great post.

So refreshing to see this giving all the vitriol by our enlightened elites who should be happy we have the country they grew up in. We may not be perfect, we may have our problems, and like any family we argue. But real Americans stand for justice and freedom and not just the views of a few.

First I am proud to be an American, secondly I am proud to be one who was given the freedom to have serve in the armed forces to defend our rights.

Anyone who doesn’t feel that way because they don’t get their way etc. can follow through with their threats to leave.

    Thank you
