“If people sat outside and looked at the stars each night, I’ll bet they’d live a lot differently.”

“If people sat outside and looked at the stars each night, I’ll bet they’d live a lot differently.” – Bill Waterson

I LOVE that quote! My son, who is a huge Calvin and Hobbes fan, sent it to me once right before we were heading on a trip to Lake Powell (our favorite place on earth!), which was perfect because there is no better place on earth to sit and look up at the stars at night. Picture being out on a massive lake that has more coastline then the entire west coast of the United States with all of its fingers that branch off the main channel – then picture the red rock walls the encompass the lake that go straight up in the sky for as much as a hundred fifty feet or more. It is one of the most incredibly gorgeous placed on the entire earth. Then picture being there at night time where the water is perfectly still, there isn’t another boat anywhere in sight, and there are a trillion stars in the sky above you with no other lights anywhere….yep…its pretty much perfect…

What I love most about the quote my son sent me is that it is SO TRUE. As you lay there at night looking up at the stars filling the sky there is this immediate recognition of how incredibly big this Universe is, how incredibly beautiful it is, and how incredibly small we are.  You can’t help but appreciate that God created all of this and He did it for us! Not just us, but for you individually. Despite how big and expansive this Universe may be and even with all the trillions of stars in the sky, He still cares about you…this little person in this big Universe…because to Him you are everything. How great is that?!!

You don’t have to go down to Lake Powell to find a place to look up at the stars…when’s the last time you did that?  If the answer is more than a week then grab a blanket and drive to the nearest place away from the lights of the city…then lay on the ground and look up at the stars and realize that….He made all of this for you…that my friends, is LOVE!

Have a beautiful weekend everyone…and don’t forget to LOOK UP!
