I’m Not Givin Up So Don’t Give Up On Me

They’ve been together for nearly 58 years, Boyd and Loa. They’ve had eleven children together. They’ve run their 1,100 acre dairy farm together. They’ve lived in Kenya Africa together where they taught people to farm in order to help them become self-reliant. They’ve had to bury two of their eleven children together. They’ve been through good times and bad and they have always stuck together. They’ve been together for so long and they love each other so much that the more time you spend with them the more you begin to recognize that they’ve literally become two halves of one whole, neither of which would really know how to survive without the other. His hurts are her hurts and vice versa.

It’s been hard for Loa to see her husband suffering and at the same time she herself is suffering because the strong man who she’s always been able to rely isn’t able to be the strong one right now. And I can see the toll it takes on her to hear him talk of hurting so badly he wants to give up. Yet she never stops trying to encourage him or serve him and it is clear that she is not giving up on him no matter what.

The other day we’d pushed Boyd out to the backyard in his wheelchair to sit by the pool and watch his grandkids swimming in an attempt to distract him from his pain. My daughter put on music and told her grandparents she wanted to play a new song out for them by Andy Grammer called Don’t Give Up On Me as she felt the lyrics were fitting encouragement for their situation. In the song one lover tells the other not to give up on themselves, because they aren’t giving up on them.

As Boyd and Loa sat listening to the lyrics of the song they both got teary eyed, then he pulled Loa toward him and they both smiled the cutest smiles as they recognized that neither of them was willing to give up on the other.

That’ is what true love is all about – It’s about fighting for the other person and their happiness and well-being while supporting and encouraging them not to give up on themselves. That’s a love that can last for eternity. #lovegoals #lifegoals #relationshipgoal

Here’s a video of the song if you want to listen to it – It’s AWESOME! (I also pasted the lyrics down below the video if you want to read them as well):

Lyrics to Don’t Give Up On Me by Andy Grammer:

I will fight
I will fight for you
I always do until my heart
Is black and blue

And I will stay
I will stay with you
We’ll make it to the other side
Like lovers do

I’ll reach my hands out in the dark
And wait for yours to interlock
I’ll wait for you
I’ll wait for you’

Cause I’m not givin’ up
I’m not givin’ up, givin’ up
No, not yet
Even when I’m down to my last breath
Even when they say there’s nothin’ left
So don’t give up on

I’m not givin’ up
I’m not givin’ up, givin’ up
No, not me
Even when nobody else believes
I’m not goin’ down that easily
So don’t give up on me

And I will hold
I’ll hold onto you
No matter what this world’ll throw
It won’t shake me loose

I’ll reach my hands out in the dark
And wait for yours to interlock
I’ll wait for you
I’ll wait for you’

Cause I’m not givin’ up
I’m not givin’ up, givin’ up
No, not yet
Even when I’m down to my last breath
Even when they say there’s nothin’ left
So don’t give up on

I’m not givin’ up
I’m not givin’ up, givin’ up
No, not me
Even when nobody else believes
I’m not goin’ down that easily
So don’t give up on me

Whoa, whoa
Whoa, whoa
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeahI will fight
I will fight for you
I always do until my heart
Is black and blue
