In a Funk?

Do you ever have days where you feel out of balance, unmotivated, and just plain blah? And you find yourself stuck in a funk even though you have no idea why? And no matter what you do you can’t seem to figure out how to snap out of it?  Yeah…we’ve all been there…

It’s a lot like Dr. Seuss described when he wrote (in the book Oh, The Places You’ll Go):

“When you’re in a Slump,
you’re not in for much fun.
Un-slumping yourself
is not easily done.”

There are all kinds of articles on the web that offer suggestions for how to pull yourself out of a funk. And many of them give valuable ideas on different things to try such as taking a walk, going to visit a friend, doing service for another person, trying out a new hobby, mixing up your routine, etc.

But the fact is that some days you are just going to feel off. When I have one of those days I have found that if I just force myself to push through it, getting the things done that I have to get done, then I can get through the day and climb into my bed, telling myself that tomorrow morning I will wake up and everything will be better. As I fall asleep I remember how Dr. Seuss goes on to say:

“Oh, the places you’ll go! There is fun to be done!
There are points to be scored. There are games to be won.
And the magical things you can do with that ball
will make you the winning-est winner of all.
Fame! You’ll be as famous as famous can be,
with the whole wide world watching you win on TV.”

Then wake up the next morning and in the words of Dr. Seuss, know that:

“You’re off to great places,
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting,
So…get on your way!”

Have a fabulous day everyone and have a glorious weekend!

You are so right! Again! Pull yourself up. Dust off the unspecified crud. Start all over again. And I love All the Places You Will Go.
