Make Your Comebacks Stronger Than Your Setbacks

This week has been absolutely insane as I’ve been getting everything ready for the big Utah Valley University Woodbury School of Business Fall National Advisory Board Conference this Thursday and Friday. As the Chair of the board I can attest that putting a board conference together is SO much more work than you’d ever imagine. It’s a lot like having to plan a wedding reception and a board meeting at the same time – you’ve got the big opening dinner event with all the setup of tables and chairs, linens, flowers, place cards, food, and entertainment. Then you have the next day board meeting with all the presentation slide decks, A/V, lining up speakers, handling the meals and table setups and the list goes on and on….

Getting ready for this conference we’ve had about everything that could go wrong, go wrong. It has been like a comedy of issues hitting us, one right another. Each time I put out one fire another one has already been lit somewhere and its burning brightly by the time I get to it. And to make matters more complicated, yesterday our email hosting service provider went down and we lost email for almost 24 hours right at a critical point. And that is just the beginning of what I’ve dealt with this week. If I sat and listed everything that’s gone wrong you wouldn’t even believe me. And that, my friends, is why I got only three hours sleep last night and its not looking like I’ll get much more tonight. But you know what – it’s going to be a dang good conference!!!

“Make your comebacks stronger than your setbacks.”  That’s my motto this week. When the going gets tough you gotta toughen up! Make it happen. Figure it out. And if possible…sleep.
