May the Fourth Be With You!

My son told me today that if my blog wasn’t titled “May the Fourth Be With You!” tonight that he would be straight up offended! Now let me be honest with you…I had NO idea what he was talking about until my husband explained that May 4th is Star Wars Day.  Who knew that Star Wars had its own official holiday every year?! Apparently it’s not a national holiday, but it is an intergalactic holiday, which apparently makes it way cooler…

So in honor of celebrating all things Star Wars, I decided I would share a few of the great life lessons that we learn from the movie series:

1.      “I don’t, I don’t believe it!”, says Luke Skywalker to which Yoda responds, “That is why you fail.”

The only way to succeed is to believe. You have to believe you can accomplish your goals, otherwise you are dooming yourself to fail. BELIEVE!

2.      “Who’s the more foolish, the fool? Or the fool who follows him?” – Obiwan

When you see someone do something dishonest or wrong or just plain stupid – don’t follow them! Avoid fools. Instead, surround yourself with people of integrity and people with qualities you want to emulate. These are the type of people you should follow in your life.

3.      “Always remember, your focus determines your reality.” – Quin Gon Jin

The attitude with which we view our lives will determine what we see as reality. For example, when something happens in our lives that puts a bump in our road we can either view it as a hindrance or we can view it as a challenge meant to teach us something important that will surely help us down the road. It’s our own focus on either the positive or the negative that determines our own reality.

4.      “Keep your concentration here and now where it belongs”…be mindful of the future, but not at the expense of the moment.  –Qui Gon Jin

Don’t let your worries and fears about what might happen in the future distract you from doing your best in the present moment. We should always have a vision of where we want our future to go but we need to concentrate on doing what we can in this moment that can help us to get there.

5.       “Do. Or do not. There is no try.” – Yoda

Stop talking about it and start doing it! Its okay if you don’t have it all figured out when you begin. The important thing is just to begin! No excuses. Just start!

6.      You have everything you need inside of you already – you just have to bring it out.

You were born with every talent and gift you will ever need to accomplish the mission you were sent here to this earth to accomplish. Inside of each of us is exactly what God knew we would need to play the role of “you” in this life. All we have to do is bring it out of ourselves by having faith and doing the hard work necessary.

I genuinely believe each one of us can have “the force” to be with us as we go through life. I also believe we are all intergalactic princes and princesses which is why I often walk around my house wearing a tiara 🙂 …I mean who doesn’t love a tiara right?!  May the force be with each of you on this 4th of May!
