Motivation, Inspiration, and Determination

“To succeed you need to find something to hold on to, something to motivate you, something to inspire you”  – Tony Dorsett

Being self-motivated is critically important.  Far too often people sit back waiting for someone else to give them a reason to get up and get going.  If you want to make something of your life you absolutely have to become your own motivating factor!  You have to be the one to take the initiative to make something happen!

Some people are really good at this and they do it naturally with little effort at all.  I , for one, have to put effort into making sure I am keeping myself motivated.  One of the tricks that has always helped me is to surround myself with constant inspiration.  I write messages on my mirror so I see them every morning, I hang quotes and sayings on the walls of my office, and I listen to motivational talks as I drive in my car.  I have learned that the only way for me to stay constantly motivated is to surround myself with things that inspire me to be more and to do better and to try harder.  When I do this I find that my mind stays more focused on getting things accomplished and I stay more upbeat and positive throughout my day.

Setting goals for yourself each week is one of the best ways to stay motivated.  Sit down on Sunday and make a list of all the things you want to get done that week.  Then hang your list where you have to see it daily.  Put the goals in your daily calendar as all day appointments that you can drag from day to day until you get them done that week.  I love being able to look back at a week and see how many goals I was able to finish up.

Determination may be the hardest step.  It is impossible to stay motivated and positive if you don’t have determination.  Determination is what will get you through when days are tough.  Determination is what gives you that extra energy to find a way past your hurdles.  The best way I find to stay determined is to not allow my mind to even consider that my goals won’t happen.  The moment we let our mind formulate a plan B we have subconsciously given up on our plan A, so I stick with plan A and force myself to get it done.

I suppose my message for today is this – when you want to accomplish something, be determined!  Look for inspiration to keep you motivated.  Tell everyone you know what your goal is so you can’t back out.  You can do anything you want to if you really set your mind to it and stay determined long enough to get it done.

I will end with this thought:

“You’ve got to get up every morning with determination if you are going to go to bed with satisfaction.”  – George Lorimer

Determine to have a REMARKABLE day today!
