Never jump into a pile of leaves with a wet sucker

You gotta love Halloween. Free candy and fun costumes…what could be better?

Growing up as a kid at Halloween time we used to always look forward to watching “It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown.” One of the best lines from that movie is:

“Never jump into a pile of leaves with a wet sucker.” – Linus

That advice may seem like a “No duh” piece of advice right?  Of course we shouldn’t jump into a pile of leaves holding a wet sucker! The outcome of that is obvious…right?

Yet how many times in our lives are we given advice that should be totally obvious to us, yet we become so entrenched in something we lose sight of the obvious and we find ourselves jumping into a proverbial pile of leaves holding a wet sucker in our hands?

We’ve all done it. We’ve all had moments where we have rationalized away the obvious because we were so invested in wanting a specific outcome, only to later look back and say “What the heck was I thinking?! I totally knew better!”

That’s why it’s so helpful to surround yourselves with people who are trustworthy advisors in your life – people who have talked the talk AND walked the walk in their own lives for a significant period of time to show they are worthy of being trusted.  And advisors who care enough about you to yell “Wait! Pay attention to all you know to be true and put down that wet sucker before you jump in that pile of leaves!”

Have a safe and happy Halloween everyone! Enjoy the free candy. Avoid the wet suckers and leaves 🙂
