“People Only Rain On Your Parade Because They Are Jealous of Your Sun and Tired of Their Shade”

I would guess that we have all seen the bumper stickers that say “Mean People Suck.”   And the truth is that I couldn’t agree more.  I have little tolerance for mean people.  I just don’t.  I don’t think there is ever a good excuse to be mean or hurtful to another person.  Sure we can get frustrated at people or annoyed at people, we can even get downright angry at people sometimes. But none of those emotions are ever justification to be mean to someone else.

Have you ever noticed that it is never the happy people who are mean to others?  It’s the people who are miserable in their own lives that are the first to lash out toward others, putting others down and dumping rain on others parade.  That is why I love the quote in today’s title:  “People Only Rain On Your Parade Because They Are Jealous of Your Sun and Tired of Their Shade.”

One of my favorite speakers/authors is a man name Jeffrey Holland.  He gave an amazing talk about this very subject – here is a great excerpt from that talk:

“…There are going to be times in our lives when someone else gets an unexpected blessing or receives some special recognition. May I plead with us not to be hurt—and certainly not to feel envious—when good fortune comes to another person? We are not diminished when someone else is added upon. We are not in a race against each other to see who is the wealthiest or the most talented or the most beautiful or even the most blessed…….Furthermore, envy is a mistake that just keeps on giving. Obviously we suffer a little when some misfortune befalls us, but envy requires us to suffer all good fortune that befalls everyone we know! What a bright prospect that is—downing another quart of pickle juice every time anyone around you has a happy moment!…. Coveting, pouting, or tearing others down does not elevate your standing, nor does demeaning someone else improve your self-image. So be kind, and be grateful that God is kind. It is a happy way to live.”

What amazing advice that is!  I love the part about how silly it would be to down pickle juice every time someone else has a happy moment.  It reflects perfectly how silly it is to rain on anyone else’s happy parade.

I think we should all celebrate the goodness that comes to others – heck, I think whenever someone is having a parade we should pick up our pom-pom’s or batons or musical instruments and join right in their parade! After all, what is more fun than being part of a fabulous parade!  And what a great way to pick yourself up in the process 🙂

People rain on peoples parades alot on the internet alot. These kind of mean people can’t see beauty in front of them or understand what it’s like to be gripped by something incredibly moving.
I don’t understand the purpose of these mean people ruining it for everyone else. It’s not like the good or tolerant people are making them watch what they hate.If they don’t like what the other person likes, they can stay away from it, easy as that. That’s what I do.
I think evil hates happyness or joy and seems to want to crush that spirit of those emotions right away.
I wonder if those feelings are a gift from God because they’re so special to feel. I often feel within myself that something tries to attack me when I have those feelings and I pray for protection from God and Jesus.
I’m glad you did a post on this.It answered my questions and I love your positive attitude.

Very Inspiring and motivating Quote for not being jealous on others.

Lovers may be – and indeed generally are – enemies, but they never can be friends, because there must always be a spice of Jealosy and a something of Self in all their speculations.
