Re-evaluating Our Daily Routines

Vacations are without a doubt a HUGE blessing. But anytime you take time off or go away on a trip there is always the pain of struggling with re-entry back into your normal life again. For starters you get to deal with jet lag and having your body adjust back from any time differences, which can both take a definite toll (and I have most certainly been feeling both of those today!). Then you add to that the suitcases to unpack, the laundry to do, the piles of mail that have stacked up and the crazy amount of unread emails waiting for you…well let’s just say that re-entry can be feel like a hugely intimidating bummer…I suppose that’s the price we pay for vacations…

But the nice thing about coming back to reality and re-entering normal life again is the appreciation it gives you for getting back into a routine. There is something to be said for the sense of consistency that a daily routine can provide. When your routine is out of sync (after a vacation or trip or something) and then you try to get back into it again, it provides you an amazing opportunity to evaluate your normal routine and determine if you want to make any changes to it. So often we are so used to our normal routines that we don’t even stop to analyze if they need to have changes in them – so returning back from a vacation is the perfect time to ask yourself what changes you want to implement as you are getting back into the swing of things. You can decide to add things to your routine or take things away from your routine based on where you are hoping to get with your life.

“You’ll never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.” –John C. Maxwell

That quote is the perfect reason for all of us to re-evaluate our daily routines. Even if you aren’t just coming back from a vacation right now you might want to consider doing it. I, for one, plan to really think through what items have been part of my daily routine, what should stay, what should go, and what should be added to it that I am not doing currently. I believe the secret of our success is found with that daily routine and I am grateful for the reminder that quote gave me today as the timing couldn’t have been better.

Well I am off to do yet another load of laundry…only one more suitcase worth to go 🙂
