Some Heart Healthy Goodness

Many years ago I was asked to chair an event for the American Heart Association’s national movement to end heart disease and stroke in women known as Go Red For Women. It was a fabulous event and we  brought in the incredibly beautiful and absolutely charming Joan Lunden to be our keynote speaker.  At the event we served a lunch of heart healthy recipes from a cookbook put out by the American Heart Association. I know…I know…as soon as the word healthy is part of recipe we all assume it won’t taste very good but they served a dessert from the book that was the most amazingly yummy dessert recipe ever! I literally tracked down the recipe after the event so I could make it at home. So as a little Valentine gift from me to all of you I thought I’d share the recipe so you can make it at home…you are gonna love me when you taste this!  It’s an easy to-die-for sauce that you pour over angel food cake that’s good for your taste-buds and healthy for your heart!

Berry Orange Sauce over Angel Food Cake

2 tablespoons fresh orange juice

3 ½ cups sliced strawberries (or whole raspberries)

1 tablespoon sugar

Angel Food Cake

Cooking Instructions:  In a small saucepan, heat the orange juice over medium heat. Stir in 1 ¾ cups strawberries. Cook for 2 minutes, stirring frequently. Stir in the sugar. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes, or until the berries soften. Remove from heat. Stir in the remaining berries. Serve hot or refrigerate until ready to serve. Serve by pouring over a slice of angel food cake. SO YUMMY! And heart healthy too!

And just so you know – I personally like to double or triple the recipe when I make it to give me all kinds of extra sauce to pour on my angel food cake! Can you really ever have too much goodness?  No…no you cannot….

Here’s a fun pic of my husband and I with Joan Lunden at that event:

Happy Valentines Day everyone!

That’s an adorable picture. The recipe sounds perfect, especially for me since I don’t like sweets.

Is it possible LinkedIn didn’t like that for some reason in the address bar it looks like the site isn’t secure? I’ve never noticed the little red triangle in the browser address bar.
