“Sometimes it’s the people no one imagines anything of who do the things that no one can imagine.”

In the movie The Imitation Game there is a line that really stood out to me, “Sometimes it’s the people no one imagines anything of who do the things that no one can imagine.” I loved that quote and I loved what the meaning of the quote conveys.

To me it stands as a reminder of two things:

One:  We should never underestimate people. We should never pre-judge another person’s abilities. So often in life it is those you might never expect that end up changing the world.

Two:  In addition to not discounting the worth of others, we all need to be careful to never discount our own worth. So often underestimate our own abilities. We assume things are too hard, or above our capacity to handle. We often stop ourselves from trying new things out of fear that we are not someone who could accomplish it. We don’t give ourselves the credit that we may be that person that can do things that no one can imagine.

“Close your eyes and imagine the very best version of you possible. That’s who you really are, let go of any part of you that doesn’t believe it.” – C Assaad

Every single one of us is born with different strengths and a different purpose to fulfill in our life. Every single one of us is capable of achieving amazing things. Sure our abilities and purposes are all very different from one another, and although some will be more obvious and public than others, each one is equally important. All of us should value each other’s purposes equally and recognize each other for what we bring to the table. In addition, none of us should shy away from or minimize the value we ourselves bring to this world. We should embrace it and own it and excel at it.

“You may not always have a comfortable life and you will not always be able to solve all of the world’s problems at once but don’t ever underestimate the importance you can have because history has shown us that courage can be contagious and hope can take on a life of its own.”

Have an amazing day everyone!
~Amy

I have just seen the film, well about 35mins of it so far, I had to stop and google the quote.
I love it. It rings so true about what life throws at us and what we can throw at life.
I shall read more of your blog, first I must finish watching the film.
Courage is indeed contagious Amy. Have an amazing day!

Amy and Benjamin hope all is well.

I too saw the movie “The Imitation Game” and had to Google the quote as this is an amazing line that stands out above all the rest. I agree whole hardheartedly Amy, never pre-judge and never discount or underestimate your own wealth.

Certainly I was not the only one to notice this and I will surly be back to read more of your blog.

    Good day all.

I was searching this quote to properly attribute it. I was going to do my blog based on the quote. When I typed it in, your entry came up.

Too close to what I wanted to say to try to better it. Good job.

I’m doing a sermon on Jeremiah 1:4-10 this week and was glad to find the quote I had heard but couldn’t recall from where! Now I can quote the quote in my sermon. Thanks for the blog.

I too love this quote. But I would like to verify who said it originally. Was it the author of the screenplay for ‘The Imitation Game’? Was it Turing himself? Was it Christopher Morcom, who first says those words in the film? Or was it someone else? Also, what other quotations express a very similar thought? Thank you.

Amy, this is such an inspiring quote I must say. I’m actually watching the movie ‘imitation game’ right now and I had to pause to Google the quote. I’ve learnt once again never to underrate myself or anyone.

Amy, I, too, just finished the movie on Netflix and was inspired by it (and dismayed by the still rampant – at that time – profound prejudice against gays). As with the other persons who commented, I was deeply touched by the quote, and moved by your essay. With your permission, I would like to share it in my therapy group.

I’m working on writing a short story, and while checking my Facebook there was a quote that reminded me of Alan Turing’s quote, and here I am. Glad that this chain of event brought me on your blog! Loved it!

There is another one from “Castaway”

“You never know what the tide will bring in”

    And another :

“It is better to be have knowledge and not need it the to need knowledge and not have it.”

    Have a great day!
