“Sometimes the smallest things take up the most space in your heart.”

“Sometimes the smallest things take up the most space in your heart.” That quote from Winnie the Pooh is so true. In life it is those little things that are so meaningful to us and become our favorite memories.

Growing up I remember our family dinners most. Every night we would all surround our huge dining table (remember there were 10 kids in my family) and eat dinner together. It was never big fancy dinners because feeding ten kids didn’t lend itself to fancy, but I have so many great memories of family dinners together. I remember trying to hide our peas in our water cups so we could make mom think we actually ate them. I remember the noise and the chaos and the laughter. Those family dinners were a little thing that made for my favorite memories growing up.

In college one of my favorite memories was making midnight runs to Little Caesar’s Pizza to go and get a back of Crazy Bread and Sauce with my friend. It was such a small thing but for both of us it was one of our favorite college memories. A little thing that meant a lot.

Today I am super excited because my daughter Ashley and I have a tradition of watching a particular television series together and tonight the new season is starting.  It happens to be the show the Bachelor and I am the first to admit that it is a terrible show and we shouldn’t be watching it, but gosh dang it she and I love watching it together and making fun of how crazy everyone is and laughing about it. We always have our salads from Rumbi’s that we eat while we watch the show. It’s such a silly little thing but it is something that she and I seriously plan our weeks around so we can watch it together and laugh. Such a small thing but it means the world to she and I to have that little tradition together.

Tonight I am especially mindful of how the smallest things take up the most space in your heart because my daughter Ashley is leaving next week to go on her mission for the LDS Church. She will be gone for 18 months and during that time we can only write emails once a week and we can only talk on the phone on Mother’s Day and Christmas. I am going to miss that little girl like crazy and I don’t know how I will survive 18 months without her and without our weekly Bachelor nights together. She is my best friend and my heart is going to ache without her. So tonight I am grateful to have this night to watch our little show together and eat our salads and laugh….such a little small thing but it fills all the room in my heart.

Cherish the small things. They will be what fills your heart.

Have a great day.

~Amy
