Take Time to Have a Little Fun in Your Life

Sometimes we get so caught up in doing “stuff” that we forget to take time to have a little fun in life. Between work, children, cleaning the house, community involvement, doing laundry, church responsibilities, etc, etc, etc, we simply don’t take time to get out and have a good time. Tonight I was reminded how amazing it feels to step away from everyday duties and just enjoy an evening out!   I have let life go far too long without having a “fun break”! After getting out tonight and having a good time, I have to tell all of you that I highly recommend that you all find a way to get out and just have some FUN in your life this weekend. Whether its seeing a good movie, hanging out with friends, going out to dinner, enjoying a concert – whatever it is that makes you laugh and smile and feel happy – get out and and do it! You need that time to just have FUN!

Tonight I did a little bit of all of those things.  My husband and I went to the opening night of the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah as I serve on the Sundance Utah Advisory Board.  The evening started with a special reception to mingle with friends, old and new, followed by the opening night movie “May in the Summer”, a cute movie about three sister and their mother living in Amman, Jordan.  Next we headed over to the “Artist at the Table Dinner” where Robert Redford hosted a small group of us – there were artists and business and government leaders that came together for this exclusive dinner.  It was a wonderful event.  Each table had an artist seated amongst the other guests. This was to allow everyone to get to know the artists better. We sat with RJ Cutler.  RJ is a filmmaker who made one of my all=time favorite documentary films called “the September Issue” which is a movie about Anna Wintour, editor of Vogue magazine, (she is also the person whose life was mimicked in the movie the Devil Wears Prada played by Glen Close) and the film walks through the making of the Vogue September Issue magazine, while letting you get to know the characters in a rare glimpse into their personal lives. I saw that film a few years ago at Sundance and fell in love with it!  I highly recommend it to any of you who haven’t seen it yet.  RJ has a brand new documentary film in this year’s festival about the life of Dick Cheney, which I will see here at Sundance in a few days.  His new film sounds fascinating and I can’t wait to get to see it.  RJ was a fantastic person.  He was very down to earth and fun to talk to.  Following our dinner there was a performance by Will Calhoun, who won a grammy for his performance with Living Colour.  The evening was absolutely fantastic and we were able to spend time with several of our dear friends who made us laugh and smile and who made the evening truly enjoyable.  It was a fabulously fun evening and I was truly grateful that I had that “time-out” from normal life to just have FUN again!!!  Here are a few fun photos of our evening:

Don’t get so caught up in doing everyday things that you forget to laugh and smile and play a little.  It is amazing how invigorating it can be to just remember what it is like to have fun in your life.  It is good for your heart and it is good for your soul.  It makes you feel more relaxed and happy and that helps improve your overall health.  Don’t let having fun become buried under a million other priorities.  Take this weekend and do something truly fun and enjoyable.  Build a snowman.  Sled down a hill.  Watch a movie.  Spend time with friends.  Come to Sundance Film Festival.   Just whatever you do, HAVE FUN!
