The Best Feeling of Happiness is…

“The best feeling of happiness is when you’re happy because you’ve made someone else happy.”

We all want to be happy. We read books and articles and we even go to seminars on how to be happier. We all want to have more happiness in our lives. It is a universal desire and a tremendous amount of energy is spent trying to figure out how to become happier.

Some people chase after money thinking that will make them happier. Some chase after things that they feel will make them happier. Some chase after the perfect job or the perfect title in hopes of being happier. Some chase after a person because they feel loving that person will make them happier. People go to extraordinary lengths in the hopes of finding more happiness.

Then a simple quote comes along and reminds us that perhaps the pursuit of happiness doesn’t have to be so elusive or take the crazy amount of work we seem to think it does. As the opening quote says:

“The best feeling of happiness is when you’re happy because you’ve made someone else happy.”

Note that it says “THE BEST FEELING OF HAPPINESS…” which states that the type of happiness that will come when you’ve made someone else happy isn’t just a nice feeling or a good feeling, it is “THE BEST FEELING OF HAPPINESS”. So if it is the best that means it exceeds the happiness that comes from making more money or having a bigger title or accumulating more stuff…The happiness you get when you make someone else happy is a happiness that exceeds all of those things….in fact, it exceeds everything because it is “THE BEST”.

Making someone else happy doesn’t have to be hard. It can be something like a simple smile, a fun or uplifting text message, a handwritten note, a quick phone call to say someone matters, letting a person know you are praying for them when they struggle, taking someone cookies or a favorite scoop of ice cream. At home it can be picking your socks up off the floor or washing your dishes or saying thank you more often. Again, all simple things to do but with profound impacts.

“You’re happiest while you’re making the greatest contribution.” – Robert F. Kennedy

We can make the greatest contribution with something as simple as a smile or a hug or a listening. We can always focus on the positive and be encouraging without fail. At the end of the day we all have it within ourselves to make someone else’s life better. We just do. Which means within us right now is the ability to make someone else happy and in turn we will enjoy the BEST FEELING OF HAPPINESS EVER!

Have a great day!

That is so true! As a very was leader said, “when we are wrapped up in ourselves, we make a very small package. “Thanks for this great reminder, Amy!
