The Dead Sea Scrolls Exhibit is Coming!

The Leonardo in Salt Lake City has been selected by the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) to display the largest collection of scrolls and artifacts ever to tour outside of Israel.  Only 10 cities will have the honor of being selected to host this exhibition – and Salt Lake City has been selected as the 5th host city beginning November 22, 2013 – April 27, 2014.

Dead Sea Scrolls: Life and Faith in Ancient Times displays the scrolls that are considered among the world’s greatest archaeological discoveries.  The Scrolls contain the oldest known copies of the Hebrew Bible and provide a window into the lives of the people living in and around Israel in ancient times. Of the more than 500 objects from the Biblical to Byzantine Period, many objects are from recent archaeological excavations in Jerusalem and have never been publicly exhibited. Objects include remains of historical and religious articles, weapons of war, stone carvings, textiles and beautiful mosaics along with everyday household items such as jewelry and ceramics.

I am really excited to go and see this exhibit and to take my mother and father with me to it.  My mother is a scholar on ancient Israel and has even published a book on the tribes of Israel called “Ye Have Been Hid” (http://www.amazon.com/Ye-Have-Been-Hid-Finding/dp/1934537756 ).  So seeing the exhibit with her will be a great experience and education for me.  I know it will be fascinating to see.  My husband and I took our kids to Israel a few Christmas’ ago and it was one of the neatest trips I have ever been on.  Walking the streets of Jerusalem, seeing the Sea of Galilee, going to Bethlehem….it was a trip I will never forget.  Our guide in Israel was amazing!  His name was Nasser Elias (nselias@yahoo.com ) and if any of you ever take a trip to Israel I HIGHLY recommend contacting Nasser to take you on a private tour of the holy sites.  He does an incredible job.

For all of you who have any interest in attending the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit you can purchase tickets online by going to http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/dead-sea-scrolls-life-and-faith-in-ancient-times-at-the-leonardo#share  .

The Leonardo is also in need of charitable donations to help support their hosting of this event.  Anyone wishing to make a charitable donation can do so at the same link above where you purchase tickets to the event.  Even small donations help tremendously.

For any of you wishing to attend the VIP formal event launching the exhibit the invitation is below:

Have a great week everyone!  ~Amy

Excellent post! Can you write a post about fertility.

Your writing skills are quite impressive,
and I can see it definitely spurred some heated debate.

Quite an impressive discussion this story started.

The role the Dead Sea Scrolls played for the Old Testament, a fourth century manuscript, discovered by a German scholar named Tischendorf, played for the New Testament. This codex (manuscript) contained the entire New Testament and was found by him accidentally during his third visit at the Cloister of St. Catharine on mount Sinai. Later other parts of the New Testament were discovered that were far older, some going back to as far as 50 years after the autographa! .. http://deadseaproductstore.com
