“Being humble means recognizing that we are not on earth to see how important we can become, but to see how much difference we can make in the life of others.” -Gordon Hinckley
Recently I was interviewed by Shauna Lake on KUTV news. During the interview she asked me if the success of my last company had changed me. My immediate thought was “I sure as heck hope not, cause for dang sure it shouldn’t have!” The words out of my mouth at that point were hopefully a little more eloquent then that, but there been more time in the interview I would have explained why I feel that way. But since there wasn’t, I will share it in this blog instead:
I believe in God. I believe that we all came into this life to decide for ourselves, using our own agency, exactly the person we will be. I also believe that when this life ends we will stand before God and account for what we became. When that happens I don’t believe for one second that God will care what our job title was, how much money we made, how many cars or toys we owned, what house we lived in, how much fame or success in business we achieved…I don’t believe for one second that God will care if we were a dishwasher or a CEO, or a bus driver or the President…I don’t believe God gives any weight whatsoever to how many twitter followers we had or instagram likes we received….I just don’t believe for one second that God will put one ounce of weight on any of those things…I just don’t.
What I do believe is that God will judge us based on our values, our character, our integrity, our willingness to give of our time and our talents to those around us, the kindness we showed, the work ethic we had, and I absolutely believe that God will judge us based on what difference we made in the lives of others.
Given that none of these things God will judge us for have anything to do with worldly success or money, we then, most certainly shouldn’t allow any quantity of either to make us to believe we are any more important than anyone else in this world, because we aren’t. If we want to be important than we should focus our attention on doing those things that will make us important in God’s eyes, so let’s go out there today and see how much difference we can make in the life of others!
You can see the TV interview that was done at the following link (please try and ignore my two black eyes in the interview! They taped it a few days after I walked into the 2×4 on our home construction site…so embarrassing….sorry!):

I believe many of the same things. Reading this tonight is helping me realize how stressed I am at work right now. I have found myslef not being kind to others when they’ve asked me questions and I regret those times. I will be planning some much needed time off in the very near future.
Right. But God doesn’t judge does he ?
