The Future CEO of America

As many of you probably did as well, I have just finished watching the Presidential debate on television.   Normally I don’t voice my feelings about politics (so this is likely a one timer from me on this subject as I don’t really enjoy political debating), but tonight I feel compelled to express my thoughts on this presidential election.  What I am going to share is not a Democrat versus Republican point of view, because frankly in my personal opinion that isn’t even the issue at hand in this decision.  As far as I am concerned, the issue in this election isn’t about political party – this election is about one simple question – WHO WILL BE A BETTER CEO FOR AMERICA?

Having been a CEO for more years than I care to count, I am well aware of what it takes to run a successful company.   It takes absolute fiscal responsibility and it takes an ability to not just articulate, but to execute on operations.    A CEO can’t just be a person who speaks well in front of a crowd, and they can’t just be someone who can be charismatic and flash a nice smile.  A CEO has to be a person who knows how to lead, a CEO has to be someone who is willing to make hard decisions and stand by them, and a CEO has to be a person who is willing to be financially accountable in creating a sticking to a balanced budget in order to create a profitable country.

I realize that a lot of people say they think that Romney doesn’t come off as likable as Obama, and I will admit that Obama is better at sweet talking a crowd – but the reality is that sweet talking will not get our country out of the financial disaster that it has been dug into.  A CEO who can talk a big game but cannot deliver is a crappy CEO!  A CEO who knows how to lead and who has a proven track record of running successful businesses is a great CEO.

It honestly blows my mind that at this point anyone would even question which candidate will run the country as the better CEO.  Just look at the track record of who knows how to successfully make money and create jobs and balance budgets.  One candidate has proven that he can by his own past history, and one has proven that he cannot.  Any CEO who ran their business the way the current President has run our country’s economy would have been fired by their board of directors in a New York second.  So why in the world would we choose to keep a President who would have been fired from running our companies?  It makes no sense at all.

Like I said before, this election isn’t about Democrat or Republican, it’s about selecting the CEO that we have the most confidence in appointing to lead our country as the successful and growing business that it should be.  I wanted to scream at the television tonight – “we are the freaking United States of America for heaven’s sake!  We are the greatest country in the world!  We have more opportunity in this country and more freedoms in this country than any other country in the world.  We are not a society of inept people that need handouts from our government – we are amazingly capable of creating our own success if we just had a government that would get the heck out of our way and allow us do it!  We don’t need the government to create jobs to hire us – we don’t want to work for them – we want them to reduce our tax burden and let us keep our own money so we can create our own businesses and our own jobs and then we would be more than happy to offer them a job if they need one :).”  That’s what I’m talking about!

I don’t recall ever feeling so passionate about the importance of a Presidential election before.  But I truly think that this election will carry more importance for this country’s economic survival than any other election before.  Our current CEO of America is failing us and he has failed us for the past four years.  That is a longer failure period than we would allow any CEO of any company to keep their job.  It is time for Americans to stand up and use their votes to make a change.   We need to appoint a new CEO.

If you are still having trouble making a decision on who to vote for just ask yourself this question – if I started a company and invested all of the money I had into it, who would I rather hire to run that company for me as the CEO?  Obama?  Or Mitt Romney?  Who would I trust to make a better return on my investment for me?  Obama?  Or Mitt Romney?  Who do I think has a better track record of fiscal responsibility?  Obama or Mitt Romney?   This question is critical because America is your business and you have invested your entire life into being its citizen.  Not only that but you have invested not only your future into it, but the future of your children and grandchildren.  So the CEO you hire to run it is the most important decision in the world right now.  So again, I ask, who would you rather hire as your CEO?

That is the easiest answer in the world – MITT ROMNEY FOR CEO OF AMERICA!!!

Okay, I will agree to come off my soap box now, but before I do I just have to add that all of us need to get out there and use our voices!  We need to take a stand and use our power as citizens of this amazing country to stand up for the values and results we expect and deserve to see from our President and CEO of this country!

I don’t usually disagree with you Amy but I do on this topic. We should not blame Obama for the state of the countries economy. In my opinion his predecessor, President George W Bush, is responsible for the state of our countries economy. I am not a political person and don’t know who is better for our country but my vote is going to President Obama because I want to see what he can do with 4 more years in office.

    Amy,
Absolutely correct in every aspect!! I am pretty passionate about this election as well. I so hope America gets it right.

I love this Amy…. You didn’t make me seem to go democrat or republican. I like how you impossed the question who will be the better CEO… Thank you…

Great post Amy. This is the same point I have been trying to get across, especially to the undecided voters. Simply, who is the best person that can lead us out of the financial ruin that our country is currently experiencing? President Obama had 4 years to show us his skills, and unfortunately he didn’t perform. Romney has the ability to lead because he has lead successfully for years in the financial world with a track record to back him up.

PS. Otto. The Bush admin had a Democrat congress during the last 2 years of his term. What a coincidence, the time the Democrats took control of both houses, we had a recession.

Awesome post, thank you. It amazes me that anyone is even considering voting for Obama. Failed ideas and policies, absolute lack of leadership (have you ever once heard him say that he takes resposibility for an incident?) and lies, not to mention one of the most petty and vicious campaigns in the history of the country (the Big Bird ad… Really?). Every politician lies to get voters, but this guy takes it to a new level.

Otto, my only response is to have you think about what things would have been like if I had come into MCG as the CEO back in 2004 when the company was financially in trouble and then for my first four years all I had done was to make the company financially even worse over my full four years as CEO, only to then at the end of those four years I pointed the finger at the prior CEO and claimed “Well this is all his fault because he had made mistakes before I came here and so my entire four years as CEO it wasn’t my fault.” Can you imagine how you would have felt if that had happened? How would you have felt about me as your CEO? Four years is a REALLY long time and no CEO can blame a past CEO if after four years he or she still hasn’t made things any better – and in fact they had only gotten worse! If you took a graph and did a trend line of the economic drop and job loss over the last four years and carry it out another four years it will scare you to death to see where our country would end up. This country cannot continue to go down for another four years – more jobs will be lost, companies will hold off on spending due to tax increases and regulatory problems, and more people will end up living off the governments support because there won’t be enough jobs and small businesses won’t flourish to create new jobs. I for one do not want to live in a country where we become dependent on our govt to take care of us. I think we are amazing people who can do amazing things for ourselves if we don’t have govt getting in our way. The govt should help us to be INDEPENDANT, not create an atmosphere where we become more DEPENDENT. Four more years of “it wasn’t my fault” is not a leader that I want as the CEO of America. You know that I am a person who respects everyone’s ability to have their own opinions and choices so I respect that you can vote for whatever leader you feel best about and I love you no matter who you vote for. But this election, for me, it is an easy answer as to who I want as America’s CEO.

Amy you are the best! In times like these I like to remind myself of my mantra “Not everyone believes what I believe. We all have the right to believe what we want to believe.” I am not a political person by any means and can only make decisions based on information I see and how I perceive that information. Do I believe the country needs to improve the economy to solidify America’s future? Yes I do! Do I believe we ended up in this situation overnight? No I do not. From my perspective I see a great leader in President Obama. I see many similarities between Obama and former President Bill Clinton. I am excited for the direction Obama wants to lead our nation.

I do agree people should not live off of the government but that the government should empower it’s people to do for themselves.

Plus, how can you vote for someone that would leave their dog in a kennel strapped to the top of their SUV when taking the family on a vacation! How mean! LOL :).

I love you Amy so please do not be upset with me and let’s agree to disagree.

Amy, Brilliantly put. I pray America sees these points and reaaly contemplates the best choice to move America forward.

  • Andy says:

Great posting. The choice in this election couldn’t be more clear. Obama is great at giving speeches and coming off as cool, calm, collected, and in control, but his record is awful and we are in an economic crisis that will crush our children and children if left unchecked. We are very fortunate to have a man like Romney running for office at this point in our nation’s history.

  • Kellie says:

Amy- I think you should run for president 🙂

  • Annonymous says:

    Otto:
I find it intersting that you want to vote for Obama because you want to see what he can do with 4 more years…I look at it like this:
Obama did nothing to improve the economy for the last 4 years. He knew another election would be coming, but still he did nothing. What would be his motivation now? He can’t ever be elected again so why would he all of a sudden do a 360 and start helping the country. It is really hard to listen to him talk because he has said it all before and when given the chance to deliver, he failed…big time!
Obama has seriously taken lying to a new level…even with his education. He refuses to “unseal” his records, but yet no one at Columbia remembers him there as a student.
Now Romney is in no way perfect. But he has proven that he can create and run a very successful company and he has proven his education, and it is nothing to scoff at.
So my opinion…I can’t think of one company that would let a CEO continue after 4 years of havoc just to see what they can do with another 4 years.

I pray America does not elect Romney.

It really annoys me when presidents blame their plight on their predecessor. President Obama inherited President Bush’s mess. So President Bush inherited President Clintons mess. I guess that would mean Clinton inherited Bush’s mess who inherited Reagan’s mess who inherited Carter’s mess who inherited Ford’s mess who inherited Nixon’s Mess who inherited Johnson’s mess who inherited Kennedy’s mess and it goes on and on. If you run for president and you promise to make things better in 4-years. You already know that state the country is in and you have advisers telling you what strategies will work. How easy It is when you fail, you blame the previous administration. I guess if this keeps up the blame rests with President Washington (sorry George you made a mess our country! LOL)

  • Jay says:

I completely agree with you Larry! It’s time for people to take responsability and be accountable! I think I will register this year just to vote Obama OUT! He had 4 years and did nothing. At least Mitt Romney has a record of making things work out.. (By golly George… it’s your fault the gas prices are so high!?)

  • Eric Quigley says:

This entire election is about leadership for our country. Our current President has spent more time golfing then he has in intelligence briefings. Our current President has not had a cabinet meeting(his executive team) in 10 months. How can you lead a country without leading the team that is supposed to be helping you lead the country. There is one choice for leadership in our country. That leader is Mitt Romney.

A President that does not lead, is strictly a figure head. A figure head has not done anything in 4 years. In fact it has gotten worse. We need a leader.

  • Sue Gagnier says:

Amy, brave post. It is not Senator Romney I have a problem with but Republican platform as a whole. I believe in less government in business and in my personal life. Not a lot of choices out there for a Libertarian. I think that is why there is still a lot of undecided voters.

  • Connie Houskeeper says:

    Hello, Everyone,

Today a terrorist was arrested for trying to blow up one of our major Fed banks. His aim was to make the economy crash once and for all. He used a cell phone to ignite the bomb. He was arrested after he finished what he thought was the final act. The bomb was a fake because he was intercepted by our good guys and allowed to show his real intent. Folks it doesn’t matter if our Pres. thinks there is a war on the USA. What matters is the terrorists are at war with us. It doesn’t matter if the Pres. thinks he needs four more years to finish what he started, what matters is that he has never ever told us his entire plan to this date. He has just said that he intended to fundamentally transform this country. But to what? Do we obey the rule of law and honor the Constitution and keep the freedoms the constitution promised or do we as the Pres. seems to want to do; walk away from the freedoms we have had all of our lives? Do we choose who we help or do we think the government knows better than our hearts? Do we keep our promises to our friends or do we support a Pres. who tells Russia to give him time until he is re-elected , then he can do more together with them? Not only do we need a great CEO but we need a great patriot who loves our Constitution. Obama is not that man.

  • Connie Houskeeper says:

Thank you Amy, for taking a stand.

  • Shwetabh Kumar says:

I am not an American but an Indian but I hurts me and my fellow Indians to see how poorly America has performed during Obama’s four years of presidency. I don’t know how he is doing inside the country but at global level, America’s influence has gone down, China is becoming a global threat, middle-east policy of Obama has backfired completely and Obama is being seen by the world as an actor who is great with delivering very impressive dialogues but doesn’t know how to deliver. It is critical for the world to have a strong and powerful America which can lead the world to ensure peace, justice and freedom. I don’t see it happening if Obama gets another four years. May be he will again go for apology tour to some nations which will yield no result.

    • Connie Houskeeper says:

Thank you , many of us feel the same way. He does not seem to care at all for freedom and the world does need a strong USA not a weak one. We see what happens when there is a void. Please tell everyone to to pray for us or extend whatever good thoughts our way, that this country will again be what we should be. I know it will help a great deal and thank you again.
