Today I was reminded of the importance of the smallest kind act: a simple smile, holding the door open for someone, saying hello, giving a compliment, lending a hand, being a friend. So many times we think to ourselves that we want to be a good person and do something kind for someone, yet when we walk by someone in the hall we forget to smile or say hello. Sometimes we wait for the big moments to show we care, when really we should be showing others that we care in small acts of kindness all day long. What small act of kindness will you offer to change the world today?…
One of the easiest acts of kindness is to smile at people. When we go out of the way to smile at someone, what we are really doing is saying “I accept you” and “you matter to me” and “you are welcome here”. Making others feel accepted and loved is one of the kindest acts you can do.
Another small act of kindness is to give a compliment to someone who does something good. So often we think a compliment in our heads but we don’t come out and say the words. I once heard a talk in which it was relayed that holding back from giving a compliment that is deserved is an act of arrogance and pride. When I first heard that it really made me think about it, and I realized it is true. Not giving a compliment of praise when it is deserved by another is wrong. We should always be willing to tell other’s the positive things they do and our gratitude for those things. We have to remember that a compliment that goes unshared means nothing to anyone, ever. So don’t hold back – when you see someone deserving of praise GIVE IT!
Have a great day full of countless acts of kindness!

I must have read or heard the same talk! Ever since I was about 14 or 15 I have tried so hard every day to make sure that if I think a compliment, I say it out loud. Even if it’s telling some random stranger in Walmart that I think their shirt is cute 🙂 It’s so much fun to see people light up when I give them an unexpected compliment. And it is so liberating to not worry about someone thinking I’m weird, and just saying it anyway 🙂 I figure, it certainly can’t hurt anyone for me to give a compliment, it can only help, so why should I hold back? Thanks for the post, Amy, it is fantastic as always 🙂
