Then A Tree Comes Crashing Into Your House

You don’t wake up in the morning expecting that a tree will come crashing into your house that day…and then it does…yep….that’s literally what happened today…

My husband was in the house when he heard a chainsaw outside.  He went out to see what was going on and found out our next door neighbor had hired a tree removal company to come and cut down a couple of huge Cottonwood trees from his backyard.  The workers were starting to cut down a tree and my husband saw that the direction they were hoping to bring the tree down was not going to be the direction that tree was going to fall.  He told the workers that tree is not going to fall the way you are trying to make it fall.  They looked at him like he didn’t know what he was talking about. Now anyone that knows my husband knows that the man grew up on a farm and knows exactly what he’s talking about on those types of things…but clearly the workers didn’t think so as they blew him off.  My husband then asked the workers if they had a lot of experiencing doing this.  They said yes they knew exactly what they were doing and they went back to doing it.  All he could do was stand and watch as those workers continued to cut down that massive tree sending it crashing right onto our house…it came barreling onto our property decimating several sections of our metal fence, crumbling stone blocks on our retaining wall, ripping gutters off the house and crashing onto our roof….

“*#(&#)(%#)()(*$)*@#)$”

My husband said that’s the closest representation I am allowed to give of the “farm words” that came out of his mouth next after he watched those workers bring that tree crashing down in a trail of destruction across our property and onto our home after he’d literally just tried to warn them that’s what would happen if they kept doing it the way they were.  But what tells you how good a man I married is the fact that after he had a moment to get over the shock of the damage they’d caused to our property my husband went and apologized to the workers for how colorful his language had been when it happened.

It’s going to take several days if not several weeks to get everything cleaned up and all that was damaged today fixed and to have things back to looking as pretty as they did yesterday before that tree came crashing down on us.

Although as I sit here thinking about it tonight I’m struck by the thought that perhaps waking up in the morning expecting a tree will come crashing into your house isn’t a stretch for 2020…pandemics, earthquakes, fires, riots, trees crashing on your house…what’s next for 2020?   A ginormous Stay Puft Marshmallow Man is going to be lumbering down a street??!! Sadly at this point I don’t know if any of us would even be surprised…

Just a typical 2020 day.

Amy! I’m so glad Rollin and everyone was safe. But I can assure you that some farm words would sure have come out of my mouth—and I don’t know if I would have been good enough to apologize for it. I sure hope it all gets put back right and quickly.

So sorry to think of the needless demolition of yourlovely property. Your story hit a sorespot, as yesterday I was cringing as I witnessed our neighbor on a fully extended ladder cutting away at one of the very large cottonwood trees (always trouble) twenty feet across the fence from our bedroom. This time things turned out better for us than for you, but I sweat those tres grow three feet a day. Funny how those farm words squirt out at times like that.

    Rollin~
I’m shocked #1 that you’re car-carrying, chansaw-weilding, muddy boot-kicking farm kid; #2 that you even knew those colorful Army action words! Maybe you should practice your spanish, so you “pasar el rato con los chulos!”

We all have daily trials, I’m just sorry I wasn’t there to see it! Seriously need any help fixing up? I can bring a chainsaw.

Miss hanging out at NAB with you and Amy!
    Ciao piscao

Wow, you guys have all the fun…

It could be worse, you could have had two trees crash into your yard.

At least no one was hurt.
