There’s Nothing A Little Ice Cream Can’t Cure

Growing up at my house, the love of ice cream was an inherited trait.  The entire Rees family, from my father to his father to his father’s father and so on, the love of ice cream was passed from one generation to the next.  The fact was that if you didn’t love ice cream then you simply weren’t a true Rees.  And so each night growing up, before we went to bed, we always loved to have a bowl of ice cream.  And it always seemed to melt away any troubles that had ailed you that day and it brought a smile to your face.  My father still argues that a bowl of ice cream a day is the secret to a long and happy life.

As I became an adult, my hips argued that a bowl of ice cream was the secret to never fitting into a single pair of skinny jeans again in my life.  Thus my favorite nightly tradition had to come to an end.  However, after a long night of no sleep at the hospital due to the constant flow of nurses coming and going from my daughter’s room, I returned to my home totally worn out, only to have a surprise tub of ice cream waiting.  As I pulled the lid off and dipped my spoon into the carton to take a yummy mouthful of ice cream, all those feelings of being a happy-go-lucky little kid enjoying her nightly bowl of ice cream came rushing back.  And amazingly, the weariness of the sleepless night, and the stress of the last few days, was instantly washed away in a spoonful of ice cream.

It’s amazing how a dish of ice cream can pretty much bring a smile to your face in just about every situation:

“You can’t buy happiness, but you can buy ice cream, and that’s kind of the same thing.”

Today’s advice is this – go have a dish of ice cream :)!
