{"id":10991,"date":"2019-04-30T17:30:32","date_gmt":"2019-04-30T23:30:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/?p=10991"},"modified":"2019-04-28T17:08:51","modified_gmt":"2019-04-28T23:08:51","slug":"if-we-only-understood","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/if-we-only-understood\/","title":{"rendered":"IF WE ONLY UNDERSTOOD"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Could we but draw back the curtains<br>\nThat surround each other&#8217;s lives,<br>\nSee the naked heart and spirit,<br>\nKnow what spur the action gives,<br>\nOften we should find it better,<br>\nPurer than we judged we should,<br>\nWe should love each other better,<br>\nIf we only understood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Could we judge all deeds by motives,<br>\nSee the good and bad within,<br>\nOften we should love the sinner<br>\nAll the while we loathe the sin;<br>\nCould we know the powers working<br>\nTo o&#8217;erthrow integrity,<br>\nWe should judge each other&#8217;s errors<br>\nWith more patient charity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If we knew the cares and trials,<br>\nKnew the effort all in vain,<br>\nAnd the bitter disappointment,<br>\nUnderstood the loss and gain\u2014<br>\nWould the grim, eternal roughness<br>\nSeem\u2014I wonder\u2014just the same?<br>\nShould we help where now we hinder,<br>\nShould we pity where we blame?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ah! we judge each other harshly,<br>\nKnowing not life&#8217;s hidden force;<br>\nKnowing not the fount of action<br>\nIs less turbid at its source;<br>\nSeeing not amid the evil<br>\nAll the golden grains of good;<br>\nOh! we&#8217;d love each other better,<br>\nIf we only understood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">-Author Unknown<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I don\u2019t even know what more I could add to that poem other\nthan to say, \u201c#TRUTH\u201d.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Look past the differences of opinion. \u00a0Look past the differences of religion, race, gender, or political views. What you will find is that we are all far more similar than we are different. You just have to look a little deeper. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We all have fears, we all have insecurities, we all have doubts, we all have hurts and sorrows and regrets, and we all make mistakes. We all want our lives to count for something. We all need a friend. We all have moments of strength and moments of weakness. We all want to love and be loved.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Find common ground and build upon that.  Look into people&#8217;s hearts and seek to understand them.
