I set big goals and I go after them. I don’t let myself settle for mediocrity because nothing about the word mediocre appeals to me. I believe if you are going to do something you ought to do it 100% and do it the very best you can. And all of that has worked out well for me in many respects.

Where that hasn’t worked out so well for me is in the fact that I often give something my very best and then struggle to accept that once I’ve done all I can do and given it my very best effort that I need to let that be enough. My tendency is to feel frustrated with myself for not doing more, and while that frustration motivates me to do more, if I’m not careful it can lead me to a place where I forget to appreciate that I’ve given my best effort and that’s all I can do. I forget to let myself feel like enough….

I’m working on trying to do better in that regard. I’m having a lot more self-talk where I remind myself that once I’ve done my best that truly has to be good enough because God doesn’t expect us to do more than our very best – for him our best IS good enough.

Next time you are feeling discouraged and wondering if you are enough ask yourself the question, “Have I given it my best?” If you haven’t then commit to step up your game.
