Don\u2019t\never waste it.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We often hear that we must help ourselves before we can help\nsomeone else, and to some extent I believe that to be true.&nbsp; But I also\nfind it to be true that one of the best ways to help ourselves is to spend our\ntime helping others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You don\u2019t have to take my word for it, there is tremendous\namounts of research that have proven that doing good and being kind will make\nyou happier and healthier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPeople who volunteer tend to have higher self-esteem,\npsychological well-being, and happiness,\u201d Mark Snyder, a psychologist and head\nof the Center for the Study of the Individual and Society at the University of\nMinnesota says. \u201cAll of these things go up as their feelings of social\nconnectedness goes up, which in reality, it does. It also improves their health\nand even their longevity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another study states that \u201cPsychologists have identified a\ntypical state of euphoria reported by those engaged in charitable activity.\nThey call it \u201chelper\u2019s high,\u201d and it\u2019s based on the theory that giving produces\nendorphins in the brain that provide a mild version of a morphine high.\u201d\n(excerpt from article by James Baraz&nbsp;and&nbsp;Shoshana Alexander).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carolyn Schwartz, a research professor at the University of\nMassachusetts Medical School did a research study which resulted in the\nfollowing finding:&nbsp; &nbsp;Those who helped others were significantly\nhappier and less depressed than those who didn\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the list of studies could go on and on.&nbsp; The more you\nresearch it the more you can\u2019t deny that helping others is the very best way to\nhelp yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I believe that each of us have the ability to change other people\u2019s life for the better. Regardless of our circumstances we can always find a way to help someone else.
