{"id":12389,"date":"2020-03-22T20:00:43","date_gmt":"2020-03-23T02:00:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/?p=12389"},"modified":"2020-03-22T20:27:27","modified_gmt":"2020-03-23T02:27:27","slug":"its-a-mental-game-win-it","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/its-a-mental-game-win-it\/","title":{"rendered":"It\u2019s A Mental Game \u2013 Win It!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Remember when we were kids and how excited we would be to\nwake up to see snow on the ground and get news that school was cancelled?!&nbsp; Maybe we should all try waking up tomorrow\nand pretending we are little kids that just found out it was a snow day!&nbsp; \u2026.and isn\u2019t it interesting how just picturing\nourselves doing that tomorrow morning is enough to make you smile?!&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I was reminded of those childlike feelings of excitement when\nmy two year old grandson came over last night.&nbsp;\nHe came bounding through the front door so full of excitement &#8211; \u201cHi\nGrandma!\u201d he yelled &#8211; and he immediately took off racing past me as if he was the\nfastest racecar tearing around track at top speed in some great race. Then he\ncalled out to play hide-and-seek squealing with joy at his anticipation of us\ncoming to find him.&nbsp; And he couldn\u2019t wait\nto show me how his Captain America action figure could dive from the couch down\nto the floor followed by stories about how he watched Spiderman today accompanied\nby imitations of Spiderman shooting webs from his hands. Everything is exciting\nthrough his eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All of that took me back to my own memories of being a little\nkid, and the joy he exuded brought me back to memories of waking up to find\nsnow outside and getting the word that the schools were closed for a Snow Day!&nbsp; We\u2019d throw on our boots and gloves and run\noutside to make snow angels. We didn\u2019t need anyone to entertain us on those\ndays\u2026we were perfectly capable of entertaining ourselves. We didn\u2019t mope around\nsaying how bored we were or how trapped we felt to have to stay home &nbsp;\u2013we were just stoked it was a snow day and we\nwere getting a break from the normal routine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So much of what we are going through right now is a mental game. And winning the game is all about how we will choose to think about the situation.\u00a0 If we allow our minds to think like adults we will start worrying about everything and focus on all the things we want to be different.
