I
woke up this morning to my husband yelling for me to come quick to look outside
our back windows. As I made my way to
the sunroom it sounded like the roof was getting pummeled. When I got to the back windows I saw big
balls of ice hurling to the ground in a hailstorm. “Of course its raining balls of ice” I thought…”what
else would it be doing in the summer of 2020?!”

I’ve decided that the year 2020 needs to get sent to its room
to take a timeout until it’s willing to behave itself. Seriously…in the first five months of this year
we’ve already had a worldwide pandemic and shutdown, earthquakes in Utah, wide-spread
rioting in the streets, and if that wasn’t already bad enough, a few weeks ago I
learned that our sweet little dog Roxy who has been in our family for 12 years
has bilateral heart valve disease and valve dysplasia with an enlarged left
atrium so her time left with us is limited. Then last Thursday my husband and I
went in to get the results of his MRI of his back and found out he is likely going
to need to have spinal fusion surgery to repair injuries to his spine (which has
a six-month to recovery period)… SERIOUSLY,
2020 GO TO YOUR ROOM!!!!

As a friend said to me the other day – it feels like we’ve already
lived the entire 2020 decade in these first five months of the year. So why??
What is the year 2020 trying to tell us? And what are we supposed to be learning from it?

Here are a few of the life-lessons I’ve personally taken away so far from 2020’s craziness: Life is precious – pull your loved ones close, hold them tight, and cherish every moment you have with them because we never know how much more time any of us have. Do all you can to prepare yourself and your family with food storage, supplies, etc so you can endure the natural disasters and pandemics that hit. Re-prioritize your time and attention away from things that in the big scheme of things are of little worth and put that time and attention into things that when you look back after this life ends you’ll be glad you did. Take care of your body – eat healthy, get sleep, take vitamins, and yes, even exercise (it hurt to say the “e” word but I know its true). And when things go wrong as they so often have this year, remember to get down on your knees to pray and then stand back up on your feet and move forward with faith.

~Amy Rees Anderson (author of the book “What Awesome Looks Like: How To Excel in Business & Life” )

They say when it rains it pours and they aren’t kidding.
