{"id":13483,"date":"2020-12-10T02:34:39","date_gmt":"2020-12-10T08:34:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/?p=13483"},"modified":"2020-12-10T03:02:45","modified_gmt":"2020-12-10T09:02:45","slug":"step-one-admitting-you-have-a-problem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/step-one-admitting-you-have-a-problem\/","title":{"rendered":"Step One: Admitting You Have A Problem"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Remember the days when you got a sniffle and you didn\u2019t immediately jump to thinking you might have a deadly virus\u2026I really miss those days.&nbsp; &nbsp;It\u2019s impossible not to let your mind run wild these days as soon as you feel a little off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some days I wonder if the fears associated with the pandemic have weighed more heavily on all of us than the pandemic itself has.&nbsp; The fear of getting it, fear of giving it, fear of losing a loved one to it, and on and on.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I don\u2019t worry nearly as much about getting it as I do about possibly giving it to someone I love and having them die because of it.\u00a0 That is a worry I am constantly battling with, and although I know it\u2019s irrational to put that burden on myself, I can\u2019t seem to get past worrying about it.\u00a0 When I with am anyone other than my husband (since he\u2019s already had it back in January) my mind starts to race with thoughts of \u201cwhat if I have it and don\u2019t know it\u2026what if I get them sick&#8230;what if I could have prevented them getting sick and I didn\u2019t\u2026I couldn\u2019t bear that\u2026.\u201d  \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Like I said, I\u2019m aware that those thought patterns are irrational but even so I just haven\u2019t been able to move past them yet\u2026but I\u2019m trying to\u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That&#8217;s my first reason for sharing I&#8217;ve been struggling with this &#8211; because step one to overcoming your issue is to admit you have the problem, so problem officially admitted.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second reason I\u2019m sharing it is I just can&#8217;t imagine that I am not the only person out there who is struggling with this so I wanted anyone else who is to know they aren\u2019t alone&#8230;I&#8217;m right there with ya&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now what\u2019s gonna be really awkward is if all of you reading this are like, \u201cyeah\u2026nope\u2026its just you Amy.\u201d  That&#8217;d be super awkward for sure&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But if that turns out to be the case then so be it&#8230;at least I&#8217;ve completed step one \ud83d\ude42 .  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>~Amy Rees Anderson (author of the book \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/What-Awesome-Looks-Like-Business\/dp\/1946633763\">What Awesome Looks Like: How To Excel in Business &amp; Life<\/a>\u201d ) <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Remember the days when you got a sniffle and you didn\u2019t immediately jump to thinking you might have a deadly virus\u2026I really miss those days.&nbsp; &nbsp;It\u2019s impossible not to let your mind run wild these days as soon as you feel a little off.
