{"id":2817,"date":"2013-04-03T23:26:39","date_gmt":"2013-04-04T05:26:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/?p=2817"},"modified":"2013-04-03T23:27:17","modified_gmt":"2013-04-04T05:27:17","slug":"be-a-kid-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/be-a-kid-again\/","title":{"rendered":"Be A Kid Again"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Why is it that when we are young we just wish we could be a grown-up &#8211; then we become grown-ups and we can\u2019t help but wish we could be a kid again.\u00a0 I can\u2019t recall where I got this list about being a kid again, but it brings back the memories of just how simple life was\u2026<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">To Be a Kid Again:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00b7 Decisions were made by going &#8220;eeny-meeny-miney-mo.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00b7 Mistakes were corrected by simply exclaiming, &#8220;do over!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00b7 &#8220;Race issue&#8221; meant arguing about who ran the fastest.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00b7 Money issues were handled by whoever was the banker in &#8220;Monopoly.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00b7 Being old referred to anyone over 20.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00b7 It was magic when dad would &#8220;remove&#8221; his thumb.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00b7 It was unbelievable that dodgeball wasn&#8217;t an Olympic event.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00b7 Nobody was prettier than Mom.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00b7 Getting a foot of snow was a dream come true.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00b7 &#8220;Oly-oly-oxen-free&#8221; made perfect sense.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00b7 Abilities were discovered because of a &#8220;double-dog-dare.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00b7 Saturday morning cartoons weren&#8217;t 30-minute ads for action figures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00b7 Spinning around, getting dizzy and falling down was cause for giggles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00b7 War was a card game.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00b7 Water balloons were the ultimate weapon.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00b7 Baseball cards in the spokes transformed any bike into a motorcycle.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00b7 Taking drugs meant orange-flavored chewable aspirin.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00b7 Ice cream was considered a basic food group.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00b7 Older siblings were the worst tormentors but also the fiercest protectors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00b7 Scrapes and bruises were kissed and made better.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center; padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><i>\u201cWalk in the rain, collect rainbows, smell flowers, stop along the way, build sand castles, watch the moon and stars come out, say hello to everyone, make up new rules, go on adventures, act silly, take bubble baths, hold hands and hug and kiss, dance, laugh and cry for the health of it, feel happy, say the magic words, and trust the Universe.&#8221;<b> &#8211;<\/b><\/i>Bruce Williamson<\/span><\/p>\n<p>I honestly can\u2019t help but think that we could benefit by going back to the simple way we had of looking at things as kids.\u00a0 Like what if we applied the \u201ceeny-meeny-miney-mo\u201d tactic to making decisions once in a while?\u00a0 At least to the silly inconsequential decisions we tend to stress way too much about.\u00a0 And what if we double dog dared ourselves to go for the things we are afraid of?\u00a0 And certainly we would all be happier if we made ice cream part of our daily diet!<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s challenge is for all of us to be a kid again, at least once in a while.
