Wisdom of Years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A man, whom I have tremendous respect for, shared a poem he wrote himself over the course of many years of his life, starting when he was 68 years old and finishing it at the age of 88.\u00a0 It tells a fantastic message of why we should embrace the process of growing older, as growing older is what brings us wisdom in our life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>THE THINGS I KNOW<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I had a thought the other night,<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">A thought profound and deep.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">It came when I was too worn down,<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Too tired to go to sleep.<\/address>\n<address>\u00a0<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I\u2019d had a very busy day<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">And pondered on my fate.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The thought was this:<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">When I was young, I wasn\u2019t 68!<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I could walk without a limp;<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I had no shoulder pain.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I could read a line through twice<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">And quote it back again.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I could work for endless hours<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">And hardly stop to breathe.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">And things that now I cannot do<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I mastered then with ease.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">If I could now turn back the years,<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">If that were mine to choose,<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I would not barter age for youth,<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I\u2019d have too much to lose.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I am quite content to move ahead,<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">To yield my youth, however grand.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The thing I\u2019d lose if I went back<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Is what I understand.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Ten years later, I decided to add a few more lines to that poem:<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Ten years have flown to who knows where<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">And with them much of pain.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">A metal hip erased my limp;<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I walk quite straight again.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Another plate holds neck bones fast\u2014<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">A wonderful creation!<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">It backed my polio away;<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I\u2019ve joined the stiff-necked generation.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The signs of aging can be seen.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Those things will not get better.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The only thing that grows in strength<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">With me is my forgetter.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">You ask, \u201cDo I remember you?\u201d<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Of course, you\u2019re much the same.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Now don\u2019t go getting all upset<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">If I can\u2019t recall your name.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I would agree I\u2019ve learned some things<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I did not want to know,<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">But age has brought those precious truths<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">That make the spirit grow.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Of all the blessings that have come,<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The best thing in my life<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Is the companionship and comfort<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I get from my dear wife.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Our children all have married well,<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">With families of their own,<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">With children and grandchildren,<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">How soon they all have grown.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I have not changed my mind one bit<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">About regaining youth.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">We\u2019re meant to age, for with it<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Comes a knowledge of the truth.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">You ask, \u201cWhat will the future bring?<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Just what will be my fate?\u201d<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I\u2019ll go along and not complain.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Ask when I\u2019m 88!<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">And last year I added these lines:<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">And now you see I\u2019m 88.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The years have flown so fast.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I walked, I limped, I held a cane,<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">And now I ride at last.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I take a nap now and again,<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">But priesthood power remains.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">For all the physical things I lack<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">There are great spiritual gains.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I have traveled the world a million miles<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">And another million too.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">And with the help of satellites,<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">My journeys are not through.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I now can say with all certainty<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">That I know and love the Lord.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I can testify with them of old<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">As I preach His holy word.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I know what He felt in Gethsemane<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Is too much to comprehend.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I know He did it all for us;<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">We have no greater Friend.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I know that He will come anew<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">With power and in glory.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I know I will see Him once again<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">At the end of my life\u2019s story.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00a0<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I\u2019ll kneel before His wounded feet;<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I\u2019ll feel His Spirit glow.<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">My whispering, quivering voice will say,<\/address>\n<address style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cMy Lord, my God, I know.\u201d<\/address>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
