{"id":3756,"date":"2013-08-26T20:17:15","date_gmt":"2013-08-27T02:17:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/?p=3756"},"modified":"2013-08-26T20:17:31","modified_gmt":"2013-08-27T02:17:31","slug":"get-your-sparkle-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.amyreesanderson.com\/blog\/get-your-sparkle-on\/","title":{"rendered":"Get Your Sparkle On!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have a great story to share with you today &#8211; it is a\u00a0story that was shared with me tonight and\u00a0it totally inspired me to want to\u00a0GET MY SPARKLE ON!\u00a0 Hopefully sharing it with you\u00a0will inspire you to GET YOUR SPARKLE ON too!<\/p>\n<p>Going into this school year my daughter set a goal for herself to try and find someone she could perform an act of service for each day during her senior year of high school.\u00a0 So each day before she leaves home she says a quick prayer asking Heavenly Father to help her notice someone she can help that day.\u00a0 Tonight she came home from school and shared today\u2019s experience with me:\u00a0 When she arrived in the lunch room with some of her friends she noticed a younger girl sitting all alone at a table.\u00a0 She recognized that this was an opportunity for her to serve so she and her friends went and asked if they could sit with this girl to eat their lunch.\u00a0 The young girl was clearly shy and feeling awkward about sitting alone, but nodded yes to them.\u00a0 The girls sat down and began a conversation to get to know her better.\u00a0 It turned out the young girl was a brand new student who had just moved to Utah from Korea last week.\u00a0 She didn\u2019t speak very good English yet, which contributed to her shyness and she was brand new to the school, just starting her sophomore year.\u00a0 It was clear she felt embarrassed at being all alone and not having friends yet.\u00a0 As they all ate lunch together and talking they discovered that today was this new girls 16<sup>th<\/sup> birthday\u2026.<\/p>\n<p>I am sure that this young girl was so incredibly grateful for the friendship my daughter and her friends showed to her, but the person who benefited the very most from the experience was my daughter.\u00a0 It touched her so much to see that when we seek out opportunities to serve others, the Lord will help guide us to find those situations.\u00a0 She loved meeting this new girl and she felt her own life was improved greatly by having met her.\u00a0 She shared with me that each day she has looked to serve someone she has ended up making more and more friends in her life and it has really opened her eyes to just amazing it is to expand your circle of valued friends. \u00a0I could visibly see the sparkle in my daughters face as she shared\u00a0how much she treasured the\u00a0blessings\u00a0coming back to her from serving others.<\/p>\n<p>Just hearing about her experience today touched my life and it inspired me to want to start doing the same thing\u00a0she does of starting each day asking God to help me recognize the\u00a0opportunity to serve another in my day.\u00a0 Heck, I want to have that same sparkle that my daughter has when I come home at night!<\/p>\n<p>Knowing how much it inspired me to hear about it, I decided that I should share it with all of you reading this blog too, as perhaps it will motivate more of us to wake up each day eager to find the opportunity to serve someone that day.\u00a0 Then all of us can have the *SPARKLE*<\/p>\n<p>Have a great day everyone!\u00a0 Now go GET YOUR SPARKLE ON!!!<\/p>\n<p>~Amy<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have a great story to share with you today &#8211; it is a\u00a0story that was shared with me tonight and\u00a0it totally inspired me to want to\u00a0GET MY SPARKLE ON!\u00a0 Hopefully sharing it with you\u00a0will inspire you to GET YOUR SPARKLE ON too!
